Dr. or Nurse, question

Today i went for allergy testing, and i had a systemic attack, i was swelling all over.. so the dr. gave me a shot of adreniln in each arm and some liquid zertec and some pills, well im not swollen anymore, but my arms where i got the shots are really aching.. is this normal? i dont want to call the dr at his emergency number if this is just a normal side affect of the shot..i dont remember this pain the last time..

thanks!

Re: Dr. or Nurse, question

Epinephrine (adrenalin) is a strong drug when given as a shot, even though it is naturally occuring in the body. This shot can cause tissue damage or tissue death, especially if repeatedly given. Epinephrine is a vasoconstricter (it causes the blood vessels to constrict), so when given in the , it can restrict oxygen perfusion to the tissue. Since you said that you have had this shot before and you didnt have pain last time, I would call the doctor just to be on the safe side. It could very well be nothing, but its better to be safe than sorry. Do you notice any discoloration around the area? How are you feeling overall now? You have been through a lot having that kind of reaction. That must be very scary to feel your body swelling up like that. Please let me know what happens after you talk to the doc.

I am sorry it hurts so much you cant sleep! That must be a terrible thing to be in so much pain. Please let me know how it goes. I hope that you stay away from whatever it was that caused you to have that kind of reaction! I hope you feel better soon. Good luck and look forward to hearing what happened.
