OK where do I begin. I'll give you a little background first. My parents are divorced, mom is paying for the reception. Dad is giving me $3000.00. My mom the day I got engaged insisted on paying for the reception, I knew she was up to something . Fh's mom is not chipping in, however his dad and step mom contributed $2500.00 to flowers and are paying $1400.00 towards the rehearsal dinner. So I had to order invites a couple of weeks ago, My mom insisted her name go on the invite and not my dads. So being that she is paying way more than him I ordered them. Dad asks what the invites say, I have been avoiding this for weeks. So I tell him, he hangs the phone up on me. He says she has 'been slapped in the face.' I call mom crying, she says where does he 'get off'. I completley understand where they are both coming from. I call my uncle, my dad's brother to vent. He says meet me out. So Fh and I go out and meet my Aunt, Uncle and three kids. My Uncle slips me a check for $5000.00 . He said go home and give this to your mother and make up invites with your fathers name on them!!!!!!!!!!!
So Mom is happy she has help now paying for the reception, but still does not want dad's name in the invites. Remember she insisted on paying for the reception. Well last July her and her and my stepfather split up so she was then paying for the reception all by herself. So I call my uncle and ask him what he wants them saying b/c he gave me so much money. So in the end I am going to have two different types of invites, one with my mom's name on them and one (which is my fav. with our parents and families) mentioned but not broadcasted.
So in the end everything worked out but FH is so pissed at everybody for making me so upset and calling him crying all day!!! He is exhausted and emotionally beaten up.
To top it all off we had family over last night and my cousin asked FH how the wedding plans are coming. My mom butts in and supposedly says 'Fine is everyone would stop adding their twosense!' Hello, take you own advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way my uncle is also paying for our limos!!!!!

Re: Drama this weekend, It's gonna be a long one!
My mom gave us $4500 for our reception, my Dad, a few hundred( guest book, little things) and FH's mom, nothing so far but says a $100 here and there...We solved it by putting 'and families' on the invite....I think your mom is actiing a little childish...did she pay for your reception because she loves you and FH or because she wants credit for it? Thats how I look at it..I am SURE her heart is in the right place BUT sometimes emotions get in the way, try and make her see that..

your family is generous and although they are causing drama at least everyone is helping. I guess your mom has lot more on her plate then she thought. That is a rough one about invites. I really dont think my FH family deserves to be on the invites with their lack of invlovement but that can cause such a problem. I have a long time before mine go out i hope they change a bit. glad it worked out for you.

i think everyone's names should be on the invitation and they should fight their own battles without using you. if your father is important to YOU then he should be included and as a grown woman your mother should respect that. $$$ is irrelevant IMO.

My mother and father paid for the wedding. Mikes mother said as soon as we got engaged she already paid for her daughters wedding she doesnt have to pay for anymore. The invitation had both names. I think no matter who is paying for it they are your parents they should all be on there. JMO
Our invite read Mr and Mrs. brides parents request yada yada yada to the marriage of their daught my name to his name son of mr. and mrs. grooms parents name.

there's always drama with the invite.
I say, do it as YOU want it done. And, tell everyone that you want it this way. They should be supportive of that...

What a sweetheart your uncle is, that was so generous of him. It must be hard to have your mom acting so childish .

Your invite should say whatever YOU want it to say no matter who is paying.
I totally understand though. This fight has not yet happened in my family but my parents too are divorced. My dad will likely chip in the most money and my uncle (dad's side) but we are already planning to put all parents names. My mom will likely not give us any money since she can't really afford to do that. I know my mom would be upset if my dad's name is on the invite and not hers even if he pays for it all - which he is not.

Re: Drama this weekend, It's gonna be a long one!
Sorry for the drama Seems alot of us have invite drama! First it was choosing the damn invite - it's lovely and I got lots of compliments on it, but I would have preferred something different but what we went with was my 2nd choice, DH liked it more than my 1st choice. My father paid for the reception plus he's ultra-traditional and would have wanted his name on top of the invitation no matter what. DH said he wanted his father on the invite too but made it sound like he wanted his name on top with my dad's. His father only gave us a few hundred. That was all he could afford, which I didn't mind, but I said no to his name being on top. So then DH saw that it could say his name as being the father of the groom but not as the host of the wedding. He was happy with that.
I normally don't care about who gets top billing at the wedding because we all know that when all is said and done it's all about THE BRIDE (ok and the too!) but I didn't think it woudl have been fair for my FIL's name to be on top like he was hosting the affair when he was not.
