Started talking with FMIL about RD- gave her a couple place we would like to have it- also said maybe at FSIL house and have catered in- (that one did not go over very well) so last nite she calls my FH and says she wants it at her house and she will have it catered by a chicken and rib place YUCK!!!! now what????
I know it is not a money thing- that does not matter-she always has to shot down stuff or things i like (at least it seems that way)
plus i made a face when she suggested the corner galley in massapequa they go there at least 2 to 3 times a month she loves the place so that did not help my choices
help!!!!!!

espo is right, he should be the one to keep the communication open.
if FMIL is paying for it, you have very little say it what happens.

If your inlaws are paying unfortunatly you cant really say much after all they dont have to do it...I totally see your point though! Definatley have FH talk to her!

I agree that FH should be the one speaking to her about this since it sounds like she doesnt regard your opinion on where to have the RD too highly.

I agree, let FH try to handle it but if that doesnt work then you're just gonna have to settle...

see i dont understand that. To me that is a bit selfish. If i were to throw a party for somebody, my first concern would be 'ok what they love the place, and think about things they love' to throw a party for somebody especially a RD, i would think they'd ask what places you two love, and think about things you like. It is for YOU afterall you know.

Re: drama with FMIL
thanks all- when he gets home we will have a nice chat about all- maybe he can do something- maybe tell her that he does not want her to do it because it is to much for her the nite before his wedding that she does not need the stress...... that might work

I agree I would look into what the person or couple wants rather than what i want.
However, I think when it comes to some FMIL's it's about control and them wanting to let you know that they're in control of this.
It s*cks but unfortuntately some have a hard time letting go and this is where they can exert 'power' if they are paying.
Let your FH talk to her.

I have no say at all. The only input I have is what date....when we finally get one 3 monts before the wedding.

Re: drama with FMIL
My In-laws are paying for the rehearsal dinner and I am leaving it 100% in their hands. They did not have any input on my wedding day because Me and FH are paying for it. So I am affording them the same right. It is a gift from them to us, whatever they choose, we will make due. DO you think anyone will remember the rehearsal dinner after the wedding, not really, they will be talking about your wedding!

I agree. I personally think you should be grateful that they are willing to do this for you, as some people aren't willing and the couple have to pay for it themselves. My FMIL is throwing ours in her back yard and MAKING the food and I couldn't be happier. She is excited about it and that's all that matters.

Re: drama with FMIL
I like the corner galley
I agree that it isn't the most elegant place- but the RD is supposed to be fun! Save elegance for the wedding
I think you should have FH give his input- but overall, you and FH should be grateful they are willing to do this for you, if you want it to be all your choices/tastes, throw it yourself.
Good Luck.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this, but I don't see what's wrong with chicken and ribs as long as it tastes good. the rehearsal dinner doesn't have to be super fancy, especially if it's at someone's home, so i personally wouldn't have a problem with chicken and ribs.

Re: drama with FMIL
I really like the Corner Galley and I think a lot of guests might too. It' s a very informal type of place, but I think that's nice in contrast to the formality of a wedding. Just relax and enjoy it, I'm sure everyone will have a great time.
