I had the worst, most traumatic dream last night out of no where and I don't know why!
Last night I dreamt that DH and I were at our favorite sushi restaurant (but it was in a weird location, not in our town like it is in reality, for some reason).
Anyway, we went outside because DH wanted a cigarette and while we were out there, some guys in an SUV started messing with him and shot him as we tried to walk into the building. So then I was hysterically crying and trying to call 911 over and over but I couldn't get through - so eventually I give up trying to call and let the restaurant people call, and I go back outside to be with him and there are already 2 EMT people there helping him… and I keep crying and asking them if he's ok but they can't answer me cuz they are busy…
So I'm trying to talk to him but he's kind of out of it and I keep telling him to stay alive and then it felt like he was getting cold so I was really freaking out… but he was alive, he never actually died in my dream.
Anyway, then I woke up and I couldn't get back to sleep because I was thinking of how if something ever happened to my DH I'd be so upset, and actually, that I would regret how I treated him sometimes while he was alive in that sometimes I just took him for granted in day to day life. It was traumatic. I have no idea where this came from. Then I slept with my arms around him (probably practically choking him) for the rest of the night!

Re: Dream Interpretation Wanted!!! So traumatic....
I feel for you- dreams / nightmares always screw my mind up so bad I never know whats real or not anymore
I cant even begin to analyze that. If it were me, its would be my subconscious fear of losing my DH...I have that fear ALOT

I'm so sorry, that must've been so scary for you!!! I hate dreams like that!!!
Do you want your DH to quit smoking? I'm thinking it might have something to do with that bc you said he wanted to have a cigarette. So that's why you were outside, it's bc of his habit that he was shot. Indirectly, the cigarettes are what's killing him, does that make sense??
I might be completely wrong, that's what I gathered but I'm no expert. Or maybe you were watching something on TV before you went to sleep that stuck in your mind and it replayed out as if it happened to you....

I don't feel comfortable commenting on your situation as I don't know you but I can tell you of my own experience.
I've had a lot of varying dreams like this but there is one central idea that runs through all of them: feeling helplessness. Not being able to control.
Control issues are common in my family as we are adult children of an alcoholic. That's not an excuse for character 'flaws', it's just something that I learned from Al-Anon is very common in these situations.
I have to conciously stop my need to control everything in order to feel more secure about my life and once I put my mind to it, I've been pretty successful and happy about it. The rest of my siblings have varying degrees of success with it, some don't even try.
But it still comes out in my dreams occasionally; dreams that someone is attacking me and I try to throw punches but my arm is limp or they don't connect for some reason, I'm trying to run away from something but I can't move, I'm falling down a hole or a cliff, etc.
Like I said, I'm not commenting on you. But ask yourself, is there something in your life that you wish you could change but can't? Is there a situation that you have no control over like a medical issue? I hope this helps and I'm always available via FM if you want to chat.

I also agree with what the previos bride said. It is hard to comment, because everyone's dreams are specific to their situations, and dreams are actually a very symbolic way for your subconscious to express things. Sometimes you can look up an online dream dictionary and see what the most common meanings of the things in your dreams are. Many times a dream does not mean what it really is. It can be influenced by a movie, by food you eat before you go to bed. It's amazing the things that will affect it.
However I do know that I used to have dreams of my father dying all the times. Sometimes he didn't quite die, and it meant for me that there is a changing in our relationship or that something is coming to an end. For us our relationship was changing, and it doesnt have to be in a negative way either. It also does sound like something about control. But like I said, grab a dream dictionary and check out the basic meanings of things, and see if any of them apply to your life.

Wow, I didn't think about it from a control perspective but maybe you're right. It's funny because I've had recurrent dreams similar to the others you described (i.e., helplessness).
Something to definitely think about.
Thank you!

I have a Dream Book and here is what Guns means:
Whether you saw it, heard it, or used it, any type of gun featured in your dream forecasts an injustice, either to you or someone in your close circle, which you will have to fight hard to overcome.
