Dream Thread 2: Share & Discuss

I don’t remember where our thread went, but here’s my latest dream scream.

Im in a class room and yes, the teachers pissed at me (nothing new). We hear airplanes pass over head. Again nothing unusual. I get pissed at the teacher and say planes aren’t supposed to fly overhead. Mind you I’m an adult in a child’s classroom. Im probably older than the teacher. She blows me off and tells the class if Im so smart why am I in school. Good question. So I walk out.

Outside I see airplanes coming over a hill to my right drifting down and landing on an airstrip to my far left. Like a backward Z type hill that they fly over and then land. So I sit on the top of the hill watching them land. There’s a lady there and she’s flagging them on in intervals. At the ‘bottom’ of the hill directly below the school is a little house. I know my dad’s inside. I just ‘know’. So I call him up and say “get out it’s getting weird”. He says he can’t cause he’s shrunken.

I run down the hill and pick up the ‘small house’ with my Dad inside (it’s like tiny) and bang on the side to tell him to hold on. I move the house up the hill and put it down. Just then I see the lady at the top. She’s scared. Something’s wrong. The planes are coming in too fast.

For some unknown reason she lands them on TOP of the hill and has them take off to land on the air strip. The smaller planes have no problem but the bigger ones really struggle.

I’m sitting below the school on the hill but can see clearly the lady on the top. Apparently as the planes kept taking off they left a skid mark on the soil that created a bump of sorts. As each new plane takes off it first has to gain enough speed to get over the bump then off the hill then stop to land.

Needless to say, I know what’s gonna happen.

One large plane comes up and it’s too heavy. It hops over the bump and gets unbalanced. It slides towards us and catches its wing on the school building as it starts to dive. It basically shears off the left wing. I ran in to see if kids were ok, and they were, the teacher was a bit stunned. We all ran out and you can see the now crippled airplane trying to just land. Just as you think it might make it, it hits an electrical line and lights up. Its sort of covered with lightning if you understand. Then it just falls straight down. Not at an angle just as if it were a rock, no forward motion, just flat. One wing is gone and it looks like it’s nose is pointing left to compensate. It hits and immediately goes into flames. The whole thing all at once, nose to tail, wing to wing all flames.

We’re thrown back by the impact and as I look up the hill… the lady is shocked. She’s forgotten the other planes. The next one just flies on through. It’s a smaller plane and sees the wreckage at the last second and misses. It lands farther down. The next airplane doesn’t miss. Neither does the one after that.

I know I know.. 9/11 and all that jazz, but honestly Im getting really tired of dreaming of airplanes falling out of the sky.

So there, I’ve shared.

I dream about airplanes a lot too... how do you feel about this dream (bsides afraid and/or unsettled)? I have found that when I am going through a particularly emotional phase, I dream about airplanes a lot, going in many different directions. Are you interested in any sort of interpretation? If so, I can recommend one of the best dream books I have come across, written by Betty Bethards (the title is simply 'the dream book'.. a guide to interpretation and understanding, or something like that). I have found that it is more accurate than anything else I've ever picked up.

Re: Dream Thread 2: Share & Discuss

Last night I had a dream about many many different things (my 'what-if' guy included, to spin off of the other thread!).

One part was I was in my old neighborhood where I grew up (more than 50% of my dreams occur here) and there was a mangy looking dog walking around, looked like a Boxer or a large Pit-Bill. He had a piece of tape around his head, and written on the tape in blue ink was the word 'terminated'. So I thought, what's wrong with this dog, was he supposed to be put to sleep or something? Just then, these two guys in white lab coats appeared, and said they were looking for the dog because they just injected him with the euthanasia drug and he was going to die any second. So they picked him up and hung him upside from some nasty looking rack thing... it was gross, they like impaled the dog's head on a hook and put another hook through his spine.

See, I told you I have gory dreams!

How do I feel about them?

That the terror of watching an airplane filled with people go through my building will never ever go away.

I hate them. I wake up and Im so annoyed. I want them to stop. They come unannounced and definately unwelcome. To be HONEST, I dreamt of this on my WEDDING night for christs sake. I'm freaking fed up with them. I've seen airplanes crash into every known object in my twisted mind. Hills, trees, buildings, people, cars, other planes, highways, schools, churches, water, telephone lines, electrical lines.. everything!

I've seen them torn up by wind, knocked down by hail, hit frozen rain and tear apart.

They frustrate the F*ck out of me!

I wake up, I shake it off and I'm sad for a bit. Selfishly I never think of the people screaming that I can hear in my dreams as they die in those planes until after I stop being annoyed and dreaming of their death. I've been in the airplane a few times. I've been in them while they tumble. Oddly enough, DH is always with me when Im in the plane.

Im getting a little worn out of seeing, hearing and feeling death in my dreams at random intervals. I can have the best day of my life and have these dreams or the worst.

Sorry for venting. It's just annoying.

So the doggie that died.
Other than seeing your ex which makes me wonder if the dog doesn’t represent the ex (hence terminated).

What else happened to it?

Sorry for prying.. but I wonder if your mind wasn’t sorta killing off your ex. It’s painful and almost cruel and something no one really wants to do. Kind of like killing sick animal. Necessary and it’s something we do for the benefit of the poor animal but something we hate all the same.

I know they are annoying... no need to apologize for the vent.

I think that you were severely traumatized by 9/11 (justifiably so), and unfortunately the emotions associated with the events manifest themselves in your dreams. Have you gone to therapy after 9/11? Did you ever discuss your dreams? No matter what, it's definitely good to talk about them (even if it's just to us LIWers!)

There's also another option to consider, which may be surprising, but it's acupuncture. I am a huge advocate of the treatment, and I have witnessed people get treated for nightmares and have had really great recoveries. Eastern medicine takes the subject of nightmares very seriously. If you're willing to try anything to make them go away, I definitely recommend you check it out. Most insurance plans cover it now, too.

Good luck, dream sister

Yeah, I think the dog could have symbolized the ex as well. Knowing that there's a slim-to-none chance of me ever getting 'face to face' closure with him, so... he just gets put to sleep.

Funny how your brain works out internal struggles while you're asleep!

I suggested to my Workers Comp adjuster (since I was physically injured during 9/11, I have a claim) and she basically was very clear that she doesn’t feel it’s ‘necessary’. Now I personally feel she’s not really fair not that. So I pushed her. She said I could see a shrink if I wanted. I have to find one who accepts Workers Comp though.

Acupuncture has also been for my knee injury that’s still bothering me. I had surgery to correct the tears caused after I was trampled. It never healed correctly. There’s no surgery in the world to make it right. Workers Comp does NOT pay for acupuncture.

Do you have any other insurance besides Workers Comp? What about your DH, can you get on his insurance plan? It just really helps... I hope that something works out for you.

My DH was used to work in the WTC, too.. he was there and all. So I understand, Ronie... completely.

Re: Dream Thread 2: Share & Discuss

oh sure i have other insurance.

Workers Comp is 'primary'.

I can't use other insurance because the primary cause of this is related to a work injury which makes Workers Comp the only solution.

My doctor won't talk to me.

Although just thinking I think I had a name from the first doctor who saw him. Just can't remember where that name went. Hrm...
