Dress Alterations

Dress Alterations

How much is an average cost for wedding dress alterations? Is the bustle alteration normally separate? I will be charged a flat fee when I order my dress for the alterations and then a separate flat fee for the bustle. Is this normal?

When I ordered my gown I asked about the bustle and they capped the price at $95 (the most expensive bustle they did was $295 and that's the one that I told the woman I wanted)

Not sure about alterations, but if you haven't ordered your dress yet I would defenitely inquire before you put money down on it so you know what their policy is and maybe can bargain a little to save some money later on! HTH

I didn't even know there were different prices for different bustles! I don't even know which bustle I would be getting... I was told that alterations would be $150 and the bustle would be $100. I got them to lower the alterations to $100 since I will have a corset dress and may not need alterations for the top. I'm not sure if this is still too much or if it is a good price. These are not cap prices these are prices that I will pay. I know that I will need the hem done on the dress so I know I will have to pay something, but is $100 a normal hem price? I am so confused!

My alteration cap was $200 and my bustle cap was $175.

I told them to put a simple hook and eye on it..

Wow. Maybe I can work them down on the bustle! I honestly don't know the difference between the two bustles, but I will have to look into that...

Look at BeautyQ115 - she saved a folder in her community album devoted exclusively to bustles for dresses.

Bustle Ideas

As for cost - when I bought my dress, I knew I wasn't going to use them for alterations and I took it elsewhere. For my single french bustle and a little bit of alterations, I paid $100.

I would definately research a bit further to determine what it would cost you for alterations elsewhere.

I bought a package with my dress that cost $250 and included them storing the dress, pressing it, all my alterations (I am getting a french bustle), and some other discounts.

I was charged a flat alteration fee and then a separate bustle fee but I was told that I would not be charged more than $75 for the alterations.

Re: Dress Alterations

Is it normal to be charged $100 for the hollow to hem measurement?

I was wondering if some of you could share where you got such great prices for alterations

Was it the shop where you ordered the dress, or a private seamstress?

TIA!
