Dress & Alterations Question

I am paying off my dress next week and taking it to another seamstress for alterations. My question is this:

I wouldn't start fittings until late January. What happens with the dress until then? Do I hold on to it or does the seamstress hold on to it? I ask this because I live with my FH and honestly there isn't even room in the closets for the dress.

Or should I just wait until January to pick up the gown from the shop? They might be pissy about holding my dress when I'm not getting the alterations through them.

I would see if the shop will hold it until January for you. This way you don't have to worry about anything happening to it in your house. Do they know that you aren't doing the alterations there?

Yes they do know. I told them today, but also because they told me they don't do alterations on the weekends. It would be too much of a hassle for me to drive from Smithtown to Brooklyn during the week after work in rush hour traffic. (Plus they're only open late on Tuesdays and Thursdays)

Maybe I'll see if whichever seamstress I choose can hold onto it.
