One of the great questions I've often pondered. Why is it that extremely unfit, heavy woman wear half shirts, and skimpy swimsuits? If I so much as feel bloated from a big meal I can't bear to wear something tight. Then there are some men who are proud to bear their hairy back, and huge belly. Yuck... There should be some kind of a dress code.

Re: Dress Code...
just b/c you don't feel good about your body doesn't mean they feel the same way.

Re: Dress Code...
Sometimes people do it for shock value and some do it for the love of their body. Not everyone is self concious about their weight. In fact you have some people who like BBW and some women who like big hairy men.

Re: Dress Code...
In response to jenny5150,- for your knowledge I feel more than great about my body, and I don't mind showing it off when appropriate. If feeling good about your body is defined by the amount of skin someone reveals, then that is a pretty distored way of ditinguishing how someone feels about herself/himself. I am entitled to feel any way I like about others 'fashion sense'.

My reply to you was not meant to be a personal attack, but your initial post had nothing to do with the amount of skin people reveal. If that was the case, then wouldn't weight be irrelevant to you?
to quote you: 'Why is it that extremely unfit, heavy woman wear half shirts, and skimpy swimsuits?'
Why should a heavier woman not be allowed to wear a bikini at the beach like any other woman? Should they not wear a bikini just because YOU don't like the way it looks?! Maybe they feel they look good in what they're wearing, so why would you knock them for that? Besides, what would you like them to wear? A snowsuit?
And again, to quote you: 'If I so much as feel bloated from a big meal I can't bear to wear something tight.
Why is that? Is it b/c you're physically uncomfortable or are you ashamed of the way you will appear in your clothes? Based on the topic of your post, I'm going to guess that it's related to appearance.

Re: Dress Code...
I personaly can not see why anyone would wear a shirt that their entire stomach would hang out. Im heavy and I know it I cover myself up. but some people do it, More power to them in my opinion just cause they make it in ure size doesnt mean u should whear it. But hey that's me. Not everyone else.

Re: Dress Code...
I have to agree with Jenny.
I'm heavy and I wear 2 piece bathing suits. I feel more confident when I'm not covering up my body. I don't feel the need to hide it. For the women who are huge and let it all hang out, I may not like the way it looks (i son't like skinny women who let it all hang out either), but you know what? More power to them for being so confident!

Re: Dress Code...
Ohh I forgot to add, I am against inappropriate attire for all, skinny, fat..whatever. There are some fit people out there who make poor fashion choices too. But I think that an overweight person will get more negative reactions, is that wrong yes..but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I too beleive that just because they make it in your size..does not mean you should buy it. Thats mainly because I prefer clothes that flatter a body instead of exploit it. So the same way we can relish a compliment..kinda have to remember there is a flip side too...we are all guilty of judging others..some are just more bold.

Re: Dress Code...
In response to Jenny5150, Maybe you didn't mean for it to be a personal attack on me, but it certaintly sounded that way when you assumed that I 'don't feel good about body'. I just feel that your assumption was totally uncalled for, and not a very nice thing to say. I expressed an opinion. I didn't put down anyone specifically. It was a general comment. Man, did you take this one personal! On another note, people can dress distasteful weather they are thin or fat,- either way It still may be to some people inappropriate, but when an individual is extremely overweight and dresses that way, it's just more noticable, and shocking.

And my guess would be that Jenny's entitled to her feelings about the way you came across. You sounded judgemental, plain and simple. If you had just said that people in general that wear too little clothing bothers you, that would be one thing. Instead, you focused on overweight women and men with hairy backs.
So you're saying my husband, who has the misfortune of being somewhat hairy, should never be in public in a bathing suit and should always cover up to make you comfortable? Who determines what the 'dress code' should be?
I don't enjoy seeing people who dress inappropriately in public no matter what their weight. However, who am I to say they should conform to my dress requirements?

Re: Dress Code...
I didn't think Jenny's response was at all judgemental....
she was voicing her opinion, that's all
for years, my father was overweight and refused to take off his shirt in public. while i can understand why he was uncomfortable....as a kid, i would have much rather had my father playing in the pool, or at the beach with me, no matter what he looked like......

And you think your initial post was nice?! I found it to be quite shallow. (And to spare your feelings, I found your POST to be quite shallow. Please note I did not say YOU are shallow.)

It was quite a specific general comment if you ask me.

Man, did you take this one personal!
May I inquire as to what you intended to add to this community with that post?
I didn't take it personally. I just found the post to be ignorant in presentation.

Lol! I swear this exact post ran maybe a year ago.

The bottom line is, this is something that you may think to yourself, or say to your best friend, but not posted for all to see. It is not just not nice.

My post was not meant to offend so many of you on this board. Many times we make a post that doesn't necessarily 'add to this community'. My intention was not for any of you to take it so personally.

Re: Dress Code...
Your post didn't offend me personally, but I still found it to be extremely rude. How can you say that you didn't mean to offend anyone? You said 'Yuck.' How is that anything other than a put down. While personally I would rather cover myself up, everyone is entitiled to dress the way they like whether you like it or not. At least they have some self-confidence. Next time you should keep these kinds of comments to yourself.
