How do we let people know on the invites that it's casual but no jeans and shorts?
Do I write 'business attire' on the invites?

Re: 'Dress code' on invite?
not 100% sure but 'business attire' conjours up notions of suits for men and pant suits or suits for women - is that what you are going for?

You could say 'semi-formal optional' to let people know that they can wear dresses and suits but it is not required to get all dressed up.

Re: 'Dress code' on invite?
We're having a simple brunch on Saturday morning after the church ceremony and the dress I like is actually cocktail length...not a full-fledged wedding gown. So it's going to be really casual.
'Business casual attire suggested'????

Re: 'Dress code' on invite?
I have a similar Q. Some of FH's family tends to show up at weddings dresses very casually. My side will know to wear formal attire (I am having a formal evening wedding).
What can I put on an invite other than 'Black Tie optional'?
As for a casual affair - humm - how about - 'Formal Daywear', 'Semi-Formal Attire' or 'Semi-Formal Affire Suggested'
I would steer away from 'Business Casual'

Re: 'Dress code' on invite?
if it is during day and persons know it is a brunch maybe they will assume or know not to wear anything too formal

Re: 'Dress code' on invite?
I WOULD USE SEMI-FORMAL. THAT WOULD MEAN PANTS & NICE SHIRT NO JACKET REQUIRED. ETC.

I think semi-formal suggested is more appropriate

This is what I was going to suggest. 'Semi-Formal' would get the message across perfectly.

i agree... i will be relying on this! Ive already been asked if hawaiian type shirts could be worn! the verdict is out on this at the moment
ETA: you edited your post and i was agreeing with the 'word of mouth' idea!

I would spread the word through fam and friends you plan to invite too
