Dress Code or No?

Dress Code or No?

Ladies, how many of you are putting your dress code on the invitations?? And what are you putting?

Long story short, we were going to put black tie optional on the invites...but now I'm second guessing.

Any help would be awesome!!

Hm. I mean, is it really important to you that people come really dressed up? Would you be offended if a guy came in khakis or a girl came in a sundress or something? If either of those things are important to you, I think you should probably mention it on your invites.

I didn't put it on my invitations, but I'm sort of thinking of making a comment like that on my wedding website, because my wedding is actually pretty casual, and I don't want anyone over-dressed, especially with high temperatures and an outdoor wedding.

You know your crowd better than any of us, but we didn't include a dress code on there. I don't even really know what the difference between black tie, black tie optional, or whatever the other options are so it would personally leave me more confused than I would've been if you had left it off, KWIM? Nobody came to our wedding in jeans or dressed down and if they did, I certainly didn't notice.

FH and I went back and forth on this issue. My parents really wanted black-tie optional. We are having a winter wedding- right before Christmas and ultimately we decided to go with my parents idea and make it black tie optional. surprisingly, everyone we have told has been exstatic about it! apparently lots of our male guests own tuxes that they never get to wear and they said they really want to wear them. on top of that, all my girlfriends are thrilled with the idea of being able to wear a long dress! overall, I am very happy with the decision!

You know your crowd and the 'look' you are going for for your wedding best.

I want a laid back, comfortable wedding and I want my guests to feel the same way.... so it's all in the 'look' you are going for.

It's really up to you... what kind of wedding you're going for and what kind of crowd you're inviting.

I will say, IMO, enforced 'black tie' is asking a lot. Most people don't have ball gowns or tuxes lying around to just throw on...and they are not cheap to buy either. Non-black tie is easier- that way people don't have to go out and buy a new dress or rent a tux and spend money maybe they don't have.

'black tie optional' is the best bet I think- the people who want to get decked out can, and the people who want to be more casual can do that as well.

We put 'black tie optional' on our invites...I wanted people to wear gowns/tuxedos if they had them, but I didn't want people to feel like they had to go rent/buy one if they didn't. People got really into it...it is fun to pull that stuff out of the closet and take for a spin once in a while!

If you are hoping for everyone to be glammed up, definitely put BTO on your invite. But, I would also have friends & family members pass that 'suggestion' along the grapevine to make sure it happens. We went to a wedding over the summer at a GORGEOUS NJ venue that was perfect but you could tell very $$$. It said BTO so we were dressed on point, but my friend and his wife's family members were in day suits, comfy cotton lazy-day looking skirts, oy. The wife was not pleased!
