So I went dress shopping for the first time today, the Maggie Sottero truck show at Helen's in Commack.....
I found a dress (Victorianna, for those curious) that I really really like, but just couldn't commit to. It gave me an amazing waist and hips, as well as the proposed bustle would give me much more of butt than I normaly have
It made my mother cry.
As much as I thought it was a beautiful dress, and extremely figure flattering for me... and well within budget - I couldn't bring myself to say yes.
I didn't have that OMG, this is my dress moment. I didn't cry - that's for sure.
I wondered....
Did you have that 'OMG, this is my dress moment' or get teary eyed?

Dress Commitment Fear
When I went dress shopping I only tried on my dress just for fun. It looked pretty on the mannaquin and I just wanted to see how it would look on me. When I tried it on I loved it and didn't want to take it off. My mother wasn't with me so I didn't want to say yes. But when I went back with my mother I tried it on again. I had that OMG moment because I knew it was my dress and I didn't want to continue looking. I also cried.
Not everyone has the OMG moment and/or gets teary eyed. But you have to feel and know that that it your dress. And you do not want to continue looking.
Since this was your first time shopping I would say that it is ok for you not to have felt that and you should continue looking. You could always go back and try on that dress again.

Dress Commitment Fear
After trying on A LOT of dresses I was starting to think I was never going to get the omg/crying moment. I tried on one dress I really liked and my mom and matron of honor started crying, but I wasn't, which is VERY unlike me! Eventually, it happened and I knew it was the one. Don't give up...it will happen!

I didn't cry! Or say OMG! It was probably the 20th dress I tried on and I actually continued my search. However, every dress I tried on after it just didn't compare. I tried it on like 4 more times and finally committed! I'm so glad I did. I had my first try on on Friday and that's when I had my OMG moment. I was thinking, 'This is the dress I will marry him in!'
I'd say look around more! It can't hurt! and if you keep coming back to that Maggie - then that's your dress!

Dress Commitment Fear
After trying on a bunch of dresses the attendent brought in a dress and I told her that I didnt want to try it on cause I thought it was ugly. She said just try it on for me and I loved it. I didnt cry because Im normally not a big crier but I didnt want to take the dress off so I knew that was it.

I didn't cry, and neither did my mom. I tried on my dress half way through my second shopping day. I started thinking it might be 'the one' when I didn't want to take it off, and when I tried a few more on after it, I just wanted to put it on again. No other dress made me feel like I wanted to wear it all the time lol.

Re: Dress Commitment Fear
So I thought everyone deserves an UPDATE -
I shared some photos taken with one of my bridesmaids, who is like an older sister to me.
Her comments were that its an absolutely beautiful dress, that basically has everything I said I was looking for in a dress - more than I could have imagined given I want something modren yet quasi-corset, Renaissance Faire like.
She also said it definitely gave me more of of a waist, hips and a$$ than I naturally have in a good way - balancing out
But she agreed, if I wasn't super wowed go out shopping, try on a few other dresses. if i still like that one... it's Maggie Sottero. It (shouldn't?) go out of fashion in 2-3 weeks. I should still be able to find it.

I went to at least 5 different salons. Each one I had a dress that I loved. It wasn't until the last one, that I did NOT want to try on bc it was 'golden' and I didn't think looked nice. The bridal attendant pretty much forced it on me, lol. It was THE ONE! I loved it and I was able to get it in ivory instead of gold. I would def visit more so you are sure that this is the one for you!
