Dress Deposit Dilema
I put $1000 down on my dress in June for my wedding in June of 02, and I am having second thoughts. I found this gorgeous design and I am thinking about having it made. So two questions for my fellow brides is 1) Anybody know if I would be able to get my $ back and 2) What is the cost of having a dress made? I dont know of anyone who has done it so I was wondering what the cost involved would be. If its less than a thousand it may be OK to just forget the other deposit, if not I may be stuck.

READ your receipt carefully. Then ask the store manager. I know for a fact that they do not even order the gown until 3-4 months from the actual date due to storage space reasons. I put my deposit down in Feb. and they told me the 'order date' was July 5th. It came in 10 days later, and they called me. So the manufacter doesn't even have the order yet. So if I were you just read your receipt carefully and see what the store policy is. Good Luck.

Having a Gown Made
The price depends on your choices of fabric, adornments etc. I started down that road at one point in my search and found that the gown I was thinking about would have been around $2000.00 if I had it made.

Fran is correct. Most of the cost of having a dress made is the type of fabric used. I had mine made and it came to about $4500, which obviously includes all alterations (which they do as making it). Also, I had some jewels/beads etc. embroidered on it which also increases the price a little bit. The main cost is the fabric.

Lilly, I am having my gown made and it is costing around 2500. This includes the fabric which is Dutch Silk Satin, a Long detachable train also my dress has quit a bit of work which includes irridesent bugal beads and some pearls. My tiara which is made from water pearls and Swarski crystals (don''t know if spelling is correct). My ring pillow, flower girl basket and some other stuff. My desinger is also doing my bridal party. For me looking for the right dress was way to hard and I think to design you get to play around and make everything to your liking.

Thanks to all..any recomendations for dress makers?
Thank you for all your help! I am hoping that my dress has not been ordered yet. If not maybe I can get away with a store credit which I can use for my mom, bridesmaids, and shoes. Anyway, I am going to start looking for a good dress maker with experience with chiffon. Any suggestion???Welcome New Vendors
