Dress Dilemma

So I am having an issue w/ my dress - there are two dresses I love, but I really would like to combine the top of one with the skirt of another. My mom suggested I have it custom made, but I'm worried about the 'school project' look of it (can you tell I watch Project Runway??) and that it will not be as gorgeous as the originals.

Has anyone had their dress custom made, and if so, what was the experience?

Do you know the designer? Some designers will actually do this for you. I know Jasmine will, because when I was originally looking at a Jasmine gown, I was going to combine two of them.

private label by g does this also

if its the same designer you can usually order it like that... fsil did this, she ordered the top of one and the bottom of another from the same designer
