my wedding dress is about 5' to short and there are only 3 weeks left let me start off by saying when they measured me it was fine...went to first fitting= fine......... went to second fitting and they said I might not be able to wear my heals - (so no big deal I wanted to wear my slippers anyway).....went to 'final' fitting on Sat and well now it's about 5' short!!!!!! And let me just tell you they never altered the hem. It didn't need it. But I guess because the took so much in from teh sides and whatever it somehow pulled everything up There is no way in hell that steaming it will drop it that much....... So what now?!? what am I gonna do???

Re: Dress disaster
I have never heard of taking a dress in and it getting shorter They need to fix it-b/c it sounds to me like they DID hem it (whether they said they did or not) and screwed up
I dont have any advice except maybe look at dresses off the rack-or wear it

Re: Dress disaster
It sounds like they did hem it. i don't think it went up 5' by itself. They need to fix what they did and fast. I hope it works out and

Re: Dress disaster
5' is a LOT for it to shorten after being taken in, how strange! What are they telling you? Do you have updated pix, maybe some of the ladies can suggest a clever way to fix the length? Also, this may be TMI, but did you wear the correct foundation garments so that everything is where it should be underneath? More than anything, that can affect the final look and feel of the gown!!!
Let us know!!!!

Re: Dress disaster
Can they add a ruffle at the bottom? Take a look at my dress in my album. That was the original style, but maybe they can add something to the bottom like that which will make it longer...

Re: Dress disaster
That's terrible! It sounds like whoever altered your dress had no idea what she was doing. My dress was taken in from the sides and the length never changed by itself, it had to be hemmed. The seamstres smust have done something wrong. You should speak to a manager ASAP and demand that they come up with a solution. Alterations should be free after what they did! You don't need this kind of stress befor ethe wedding! Keep us updated. Goodluck!

Re: Dress disaster
It only would have come up if they detached from the waist to alter the sides and hiked it up from there. I want to know what their plans are to fix this? I have heard worse stories with less time left, I am sure they will be able to fix it

Re: Dress disaster
I would maybe take the dress to another seamstress...Maybe they can add a cute under layer or examine the seams to see how the original seamstress F U C K E D it up...if not, I would force them to speed order something or maybe find an off the rack and take them to small claims if they don't refund you in whole and maybe pay for any new dress or alterations for the old one. How in the world did they manage that one?
I know another bride on here called for fittings recently and found her dress was never ordered. You have 3 weeks left, so trust me, express speed shipping could be an option...it is their fault, so they need to rectify this.
Good luck
Always remember, you might have legal remedies and you could threaten them with this....sometimes it works!

Re: Dress disaster
I would ask how they went about the alterations. Let the atlerations people figure out how they are going to solve this one. It sounds like they hemmed it. I can't imagine that taking it in on either side would lift the dress that much
