Dress Doubt... Sorry its long

I know Ive seen this post a thousand times and IVE even tried to talk other girls out of feeling this way, but know IM actually feeling this way!!!

I know I love my dress and I know I loved it when I saw it originally and when I went back to try it on, but now Im having MAJOR dress doubt! My dress is VERY plain and simple, but GORGEOUS and bridesy just very simple. Not pouffy, fitted with a small train.

Well I went to the bridal salon yesterday to see my BM dresses SINCE THEY WERE IN! =)) (sidenote: Thrilled they came out SICKKKKK I LOVE THEM!)
And they had this Eve of Milady dress that I FELL INSTANTLY IN LOVE WITH! It was in the window, I didnt try it on I just asked about it, which Ive NEVER done before. Of course I cant find it on the web anywhere, but am I TOTALLY crazy that a month before my fittings will start on my other dress that I AM THINKING about possibly just going to try this dress on to just SEE how it looks??? It probably is considering I have my DOJ, my veil and my headpiece already.

If you can find a pic I would appreciate it, its got pleating on top half way to the waist, then it has what appears to be a belt and then its all plain satin I BELIEVE until the bottom of the dress which has embelishments. I dont think it was SUPER huge, but a lil pouffy. I could end up HATING IT because it had the bustle up and I couldnt see it with the bustle down.

UGHHHHHH what do I do? Just leave it alone or maybe just find out about this other dress? Im sure this other dress will end up being like 6 grand which I TOTALLY cant afford AT ALL. Even if I didnt buy my other dress so... UGHHH Im probably just getting nervous right?!

Happens to us all. I think there are more than one dress out there for us all.

About two weeks before my wedding I went to meet JillMarie, she was trying on her newly arrived dress. It was gorgeous and she looked fantastic! Compared to my dress which was covered in corded lace and pearls, her was more traditional satin. I had doubts immediately.

I think you may be right, nerves.

IMO leave it alone. .so unless you are REALLY ready to toss out the old one and buy the new one, prob at an extra expense for rush
\
I did this, tried on a second dress and did love it and now I like mine even less and just couldnt justify the expense of buying a 2nd one since my first was not cheap and it just seemed like such a waste. . I think it would have been easier to love my first one if I had not tried the 2nd on. .

but if you really want to an can do it. then of course go for it!!

I would try on the second one and the one that you bought already and see if you still feel the same about the Eve of Milady. Buy the dress that makes you feel the best on your wedding day.

YEa your probably both right. I know I shouldnt because its SOOOOOO NOT in the budget and my FH would PROBABLY (ok DEFINATELY) KILL ME! Were saving for this, busting our butts, trying to pay for this wedding what am I even thinking that I could AFFORD a 2nd dress EVEN if I fell head over heels in love. I know I still love my dress I guess I just need to see it and put it on again!
Its so hard in between HOW LONG in between you get to have it on and stuff you forget how amazing it is and more so how perfect it is when its on.

Thanx ladies for taking the time to read that =) I appreciate it! I feel better already!

Re: Dress Doubt... Sorry its long

Maybe this wedding dress remorse story will make you laugh a little... about a thousand years ago (4years) I was trying on BM dresses for a friend's wedding at David's Bridal. While we were waiting to pay I saw an Oleg Cassini dress and fell instantly in love with it... so what did I do? I went back and bought it!!! I wasn't engaged... I don't even think I was seriously dating anyone at the time... but in my mind this dress was perfect and I had to have it! So now hanging in my mother's closet is a never worn or altered Oleg Cassini dress that there is no way in hell I will actually fit in anymore (I bought it a month or two after having surgery to correct my scoliosis so I had lost a ton of weight while in the hospital). The dress is gorgeous but what the heck am I going to do with it?!?! I have no idea what I was thinking... who buys a wedding dress under those circumstances?!?!

So there is a new dress I love (pics in my album) which I refuse to try on or buy until it gets a little closer to avoid a repeat of my first dress disaster and the other dress will continue to hang in mom's closet... <<>>

I think the important thing to remember is that you fell in love with your dress for a reason... just try to remember those reasons and try to avoid looking at other people's dresses I am sure it is gorgeous and you will look stunning in it!

I think i would leave it alone. I dont even think they would be able to get the dress in for you in time, your wedding is 2 months away which that alone is a short period of time to get an EOM dress in BUT remember it cant come in right before your wedding, it would have to come in 6-8 weeks before to start alterations and well that means it would have to be here in a month.

Also you bought your dress for a reason, IF when you try it on you still feel its plain why not add some beading to it, that wouldnt take as long. Add something to it, you can do that. Also, remember that you would lose the money for this dress, not like they can just take the money and put it towards the other dress bc this dress is done already so it has to be paid for.

Sorry you're going through this, but I'm sure your other dress is gorgeous as well. Also, in case you don't know, it may even be too late to get the EOM dress if your wedding date is true under your profile. I'm getting an EOM gown and you need to order them like 9-10 months in advance because they're all hand made. All of the beading and detailing on EOM gowns is done by hand, so they take a really long time to make. I guess it can't hurt to ask though

IMHO you need to think hard about this.

*IF* you try on the dress and love it:
a. Cost difference?
b. DOJ not matching?
c. Veil not matching
d. CAN THEY GET IT IN IN TIME AND ALTER IT IN TIME.

If yiou REALY want to try on the dress keep all of this in mind BEFORE you do.

Re: Dress Doubt... Sorry its long

I had a similar situation and did a re-select back in December (I had ordered my first dress in Sept).

What's funny is that a month before (Nov) the re-select we went looking at BM dresses and my (NOW) dress was in the window....I looked at it and gasped. Especially because the dress was one that I had saved in my 'dresses to try on' folder and I never did. Well wouldn't you know that fate jumped in. I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I thought long and hard about it, and did a re select. But because I did it so early on there was no consequence..

So girl, I've been there. The only option you have is to buy the store sample if it's killing you that much.

But if you do keep your gown, I say just do major hair, makeup, and accessories. That always does the trick for me.

Good luck!

Re: Dress Doubt... Sorry its long

Thank you I appreciate all the advice. I went back and looked at my pics again of MY dress and ME in it and its just me and I DID get it for a reason and I have to remind myself of that. I dont think it would be worth the anguish and money to go attempt to get this other dress. I got gorgeous jewelry and a gorgeous headpiece which will play up the bling and all together with the veil I know it wont be so 'simple'... And maybe I will even ask if they can add some more beading to mine, thats a good idea Espo. Thank you! A

Thank you EVERYONE =)) I appreciate all the help you ladies ALWAYS give me! =)

I went through the same thing! I found another dress and said 'this is the one!'. So I tried it on....and I loved it! I said I would ride it out, and I went for my first fitting and I loved mine too! I think if you don't try it on, you may be thinking about it forever wondering what it may have looked like. You may try it on and hate it and feel a whole lot better! Bottom line, you will definitely like more than one dress, but don't always wonder...Hope that made at least a little sense

Re: Dress Doubt... Sorry its long

I don't think there's anybody that has had more dress doubts than me. Same thing, my dress is slim silhouetted, and although it does have detailing, it's more tone-on-tone embroidery than crystals and pearls, so it's not very obvious, and sometimes I HATE my dress, and think it's ugly, I'm ugly in it, and I made a terrible mistake and bought it just because at that point early September I desperately just wanted to get something accomplished (got engaged late June, didn't book RH till mid-August, and didn't do any real planning until October, so I got the itch).

Then I saw a pic of the Maggie Brielle dress, and *think* I fell in love with it. But I won't go torturing myself, and I certainly won't go try to track it down and buy it. I just got to keep telling myself I bought my dress for a reason, so deal with it.

You know what the problem is? They make you order your dress so d@mn early that by the time the dress comes in, your style changes. I think all brides go through this. My BMs said that they went through this and that you have to just put it out of your mind and trust that the dress will look beautiful on you. HTH!

Re: Dress Doubt... Sorry its long

Yea I just keep going back and looking at my pictures of my dress and I just keep telling myself then when I got for my fitting next month I'm going to love it all over again.

Dede EXACTLY! I ordered my dress is Nov-Dec, it didnt get here until Feb and then I dont see it again until next month! So its like I look at it online and yes of course its pretty on the model but Im like thats not me. Then I look at mine and since it hasnt been fitted its a lil frumpy on top and Im like UGH what did I do! This is my wedding and I got SUCH a plain dress! But then I remember how I fell in love the instant I saw it! I am trying to remember how I felt when I saw it again in Feb and FELL IN LOVE again then. And I remember I blinged it up with my jewelry and my headpiece and how when its all put together the day of it wont be so 'plain'.

I mean FH and I went to do our bands and my band is going to put us over budget so another dress is ABSOLUTELY out of the question, if anything is going over budget its my band cause IM DYING for it. LOL

The only thing I may do to help bling it up more is buy a cuff bracelet instead of the thinner one I have now. THATS the only thing I may change. Otherwise I just need to remember that I love my dress and it gave me THAT feeling once and its only natural to see other dresses and think they are gorgeous and wonder.
I think honestly its my nerves getting to me.

Thank you ladies for the honest opinions and advice once again!

Don't settle. Trust me you will not be happy. If you don't feel right you will not feel right about anything, it seems to set the stage for everything.

Re: Dress Doubt... Sorry its long

I was in the exact same boat as you. My wedding is in less than 4 months and I bought a 2nd dress. I will not be wearing thefirst one. Thank God they said it will be in by July but it's still cutting it close b/c my wedding is in August. I just couldn't settle for the first one. I kept putting all this pressure on myself b/c the first one is form fitting and I just had to havemy body perfect to squeeze into it.

I was able to find a 2nd dress that is more flattering for me and now I don't feel as anxious about it. I really feel for you but I do have to tell you that at the bridal store they said Eve of Milday takes awhile to come in, so you mayjust be getting your hopes up if you try on the dress and fall in love.....unless you could purchase the sample. Good luck to you and I am sure you will look beautiful either way!!!!

Honestly, we all have these doubts ... unless you really hate your dress just leave it alone.. once you go for fittings and try it on with all your stuff you will feel beautiful!
