Dress Fitting Question

when should i schedule my first dress fitting? the sales woman at the bridal salon told me 6 weeks before the wedding but i think it might be a good idea to go sooner - my dress is HUGE on me - it feels like its about 2-3 sizes too big so i want to play it safe and make sure i have enough time for them to get it right - am i worrying too much? for some reason i dont have that much confidence, i guess im nervous because i have no idea how they are going to make it fit me

the whole bodice is huge on me - it needs A LOT more than a nip and tuck...obviously the dress is really long on me too but im not worried about that part - im worried about them getting it to fit my body - especially my waist and boob area!

Re: Dress Fitting Question

RK Bridal scheduled my fittings already for:

1st fitting - 11/5
2nd fitting - 11/26
Final fitting - 12/10

SO my 1st fitting is about 7 weeks from my wedding and my last fitting is 2 weeks before my wedding...just incase they need to do any extra work.

i know how you feel nicole! i went for my 1st fitting and the dress just slid right down to my hips

they had to only measure and pin the top half. this way for my 2nd fitting the top will fit and they can work on the bottom

yeah i dont think it will be possible for them to do anything with it until they can get the top to stay on! do you think mid september is too soon? thats about 10 weeks before the wedding - i cant really count any time in december b/c we are getting married at the very beginning of the month KWIM? can they refuse to do it that soon? or do they have to start whenever i schedule it? i have a feeling i might be a little bit of a zilla when it comes to my dress - and remember i have TWO dresses to go for fittings for!

mine is about 2-3 sizes too big and has lots of detail...the seamstress told me to schedule mine right after labor day so closer to 3 months before the wedding.

mine doesnt have any detailing - its very plain - i think it might need more boning though once it fits me - when they pinned it back to show me how it would look when it fits the boning was in weird spots and looked kind of lumpy - and i think that the torso is too long - i feel like the top of my dress was touching my armpits and it shouldnt be that high - its like the top/torso of the dress is too long for my body - i dont know if they can shorten it? its just a disaster thats why i want to go sooner rather than later....

I would go sooner if I were you, at least then you will have piece of mind that its going to fit you right.

6 weeks is fine, i wouldnt worry that much. Honestly they couldnt even hem my dress the first fitting bc i had a cast on. I wasnt able to really get much done until about 4 weeks before the wedding which was my 2nd fitting...now between 2nd and last fitting there was only 2 weeks in between. During that 2 weeks they had to hem my dress but in order to do so they had to take off the beading on the front by hand, hem it and then put it all back on by hand, and they were able to do it in 2 weeks.

ETA: INFACT i was never able to try on shoes with my dress bc i couldnt really put shoes on so i did fittings without my shoes. So i had a bit of a disaster considering my fittings were when i had a cast on and it worked out

well if youre nervous then go sooner, is your dress in already? or do you when its supposed to arrive. Mine came the middle of march. I would ask to find out about the alterations dept where you got your dress...i edited my post above but i had a bit of a problem bc i was in a cast when i started fittings, so the first time i went it was like ok the part i really need i cant even do. I never was able to even try on my dress with shoes since i couldnt put shoes on. I do have to say that i was a bit afraid bc the seamstress asked me if they took my height when they ordered the dress, she asked bc i had alot of detail on the bottom of my dress, so in order to hem it she had to take off all the detail and put it back on, i remember thinking 'W** how is this going to work' i was nervous i have to say but it worked out...then i also told her to hem it just according to me wearing 3.5 inch heels, so if i wasnt able to wear heels i wouldve screwed myself over hahaha. I think she thought i was crazy but i convinced her. I know it can be scary

I would first find out more info about the place you bought your dress and ask them whats the earliest you can start alterations

yeah my dress is in - thats how i know its so freaking big on me - i tried it on and it was HUGE and its supposed to be the smallest size that they can make....the saleswoman told me not to worry but thats her job to say that im not THAT nervous about it b/c i know that im not the only person who needs a lot of alterations - people lose weight all the time and end up needing a lot done to their dress so i know they can do it and have experience - i just know that i am picky so i think me being picky about it is why i want to start early - also i will have a better of idea of the cost - macys alterations are supposed to be ridiculous expensive - and the sooner i find out the better, that way i have more time to scrounge up the money....

well taking it in is not a problem, thats one part that is easy for them to do and honestly that one part doesnt take long. Plus if you dont have alot of beadwork then it makes it easier. You can start 2 months before though if it will make you feel better, i doubt they'll say no.
