Dress help, need your opinions and advice! with poll!

Dress help, need your opinions and advice! with poll!

Well today I had my first fitting and the dress was super heavy and really big (much bigger than I remembered). I was only standing still for 30 mins and I was sweating like crazy and ready to faint (and almost did). Even with the bustle, it was still really uncomfortable. At this point, with alterations, FH and I have invested a lot of money into this dress.

Now because of this, I am seriously considering getting a cheaper second dress to wear at the reception (after our first dance and dinner).

So I need to know...girls who have worn big wedding dresses...did it stay uncomfortable all night? Do you wish you had a lighter dress to dance in? Did it take away from the enjoyment of your wedding day? I really need help on this. I am afraid that I'll be so uncomfortable that I will not fully enjoy the reception.

Pleeasssee help!

TIA!

Is there anything they can do with the alterations to make it 'less big'? I was just looking at pictures of it in your album and what if they cut off some of the train entirely? That would cut some of the heaviness out of it. It's such a pretty dress it would be such a shame to only wear it for the ceremony.

I was thinking of cutting off some of the fabric thats under the dress actually. Theres a slip already built in...but I only needed a bigger 'poof' in the back of the dress. So maybe I could cut it in some places! Another option FH and I were talking about was to just take off the extra slip all together after all the pics are done. I think it might make a big difference in the way I can move around in the dress.

Thanks!

Absolutely!!! After pics are over definitely take that slip out. I give you poofy dress girls credit!! When I was trying dresses on I was a disaster trying to walk around in them... which is why I ended up with something pretty straight with no poofs. But I love your dress and really think it would be sad if you only got to wear it for part of the night!

Awww thanks! I was so envious of all the girls with their smaller wedding dresses in the store! I think it would be sad too if I didn't wear it the whole night. Granted, I had been doubting my dress choice for a while..so this didn't help lol...but the dress was a gift from FH, so I feel like if I don't sukc it up and wear it all night, he might be kinda hurt. Plus, FH said he always imagined I'd be wearing a poofy dress at our wedding...way to make me feel bad! lol Thanks the advice! :D

i would find out from the girls who wore Maggie Sottero's Sabelle. That is the heaviest dress that I know of: between 7-10 pounds.

I know Gina wore it (Futuremrskeuhne) and Shauna will be. A few more had the dress too.

good luck sweets! I hate that you are unhappy. See if the shop can do something for you to make it lighter

Honestly, my dress was HUGE, lol but it was organza so it was lighter than a satin dress. I was very comfortable in it, and had no problem moving around. While the train was out I either carried it or someone else carried it, but when it was bustled, I was dancing around in it all night. Remember also, for the reception, there will be air conditioning indoors so it won't be nearly as hot.

Thanks ladies!

Laura - I was thinking of asking you direct because I remember your dress being really big!

Alyssa - thanks! I was thinking of asking them to cut some of the fabric from underneath the front...plus I think I will take off the slip after pics. I am hoping that will help! It would sukc to have to waste $$ on another dress!

Thanks again!
