Dress is 'in' now...but will it be when....

Ok, I am in the process of dress shopping. It seems that the dresses that I have narrowed it down to are the 'in' dresses. But I am wondering, is this dress a fad that will be out as fast as it came in. Will I look back in 30 years and wonder what I was thinking when I picked it out.

I am trying to put the pic of the dress. Help me?!!

sometimes i think most people look back in 30 years and wonder what they were thinking. about everything, not just the dress... lol....

in the end, i thinkn you will have to go with your gut and just wear what you like and if you love it and are comfortable in it, you will look fabulous. now and forever. and just because something is not 'In' doesn't mean it looks bad or isn't right for you

I agree. Seems these days fashion changes daily, but if you look good...it doesn't matter! Do whatever makes you happy!

I was supposed to be married 18 years ago but that never happened.
For some reason I keep the planning book I had and wow were the styles really different from now.
Big poofy dresses with bows everywhere, on shoulders, bodices, even on the butts. We can thank Princess Di for that. Big poofy veils with beaded headpieces that came to a v-point in the middle of the forhead. Big poofy hair that required a case of Aqua Net to hold it in place. Tons of makeup. BM dresses in pastel colors - with hats to match. Rainbow weddings were in style, where each BM wore the same dress in a different color. GM wore matching pastel cumberbunds and bowties.

I recently saw the pics of a friend's wedding 30 years ago in 1977. Think Saturday Night Fever and you're on the mark. What a hoot.

30 years from now you will look back at your pics and wonder what were you thinking when you picked this dress. Have a good laugh and then remember all of the happy memories of your wedding day.

Don't think about what it will look like when you look back in 30 years.

Fashion changes on a day to day basis and it's impossible to keep up.

Pick the dress that you like and feel comfortable in. when you look back at pictures in 30 years, you'll get a laugh but remember all the happiness of the day and how much you loved that dress!

Pick the dress you like and feel comfortable in.

Dress styles are constantly changing. What is in this year may not be in next year.

Good luck and have fun with dress shopping.

Is the pic online? You can right click and select Properties. A window will pop up, copy the URL address. Then go into your post and select Insert Web Image (under the smilies) and Paste the URL there. HTH!!

Don't worry about 30 years from now, we can't control what's going to be in style so don't stress over it. Get what you like for your wedding day, and in 30 years, whether or not it's still considered fashionable you'll be able to say 'well it was very 'in' then!!'

i say don't worry about it

i look back at my mom's wedding album and even though my dad wore a brown tuxedo with a ruffled shirt and my mom wore a semi-outdated dress..i still think he looks handsome and she looks gorgeous...it's neat to see how fashion has changed through the years and i just love looking at her album

I agree with the others, but to a point.

for example, my parents / aunts and uncles weddings (1953 to 1967). You'd THINK there would be numerous dated things....

Actually, there were almost NONE. My aunt who was married in the mid 50's had a really classy 50's look. It is charming, not . My other aunt (1960?) and my mom (1967) also had rather classic gown styles, and look rather audrey hepburn-ish.

While certain styles can eventually look dated, we also always know what styles are timeless. If this is a concern to you (and it is to me also), there's no need for you to ignore it!

Just choose a more classical style (sort of ann taylor-ish, breakfast at tiffany's)... streamlined, and not too frilly, and you will have a timeless look..... I'm sure you can find a dress like that if you want....
