I found the wedding dress i want yesterday- woo hoo!!! i was always under the impression that I order it, it gets delivered to the store, i go in to see what alterations i need, they do the alterations and then KEEP the dress until right before the wedding. My friend told me that they do NOT hold it at the store, that I hold it. Is that correct?

Hmm I thought it was what you thought too or maybe they just hold off on ordering it so it's not in the store for too long, not sure sorry, but congrats on finding your dress!!!!

Re: Dress pick up question
As far as I know, most stores keep the gown until at least a week before the wedding. I guess it all depends on the store.

Re: Dress pick up question
When I went to try dresses on at RK they told me they keep them till the wedding but the other stores I went to ask that you take it home once it arrives and bring it back later for alterations.I guess it all depends on where you purchase the dress.

Your friend is right. They ask you to take it home once it comes in within two weeks. Then they ask you to bring it back for alterations when it gets closer to your date. I'd just buy a garment bag (they sell them their) and keep it in a cool dry place, like a closet that doesn't have anything else in it.

Re: Dress pick up question
you should be fine.
Just wait longer to make ur final alterations. You should only have it in your possession for about.. a month tops

Re: Dress pick up question
If it is Davids Bridal they wont keep it longer than 30 days after it comes in. I ordered my dress April 10th- they told me it would come in July- got an e-mail saying it was in April 28th!!!! Can you imagine 18 days, if I wanted it in 18 days it would never had come. Anyway, I waited as long as I could but I picked it up this past Monday. They told me to wrap it in a white sheet and keep it in the garment bag and it should be fine. I am keeping it at my bro's house so FH wont see it.

Yep, I got my dress from DB and I had to bring my dress home the day went to see it. You also have to pay for a garment bag to put the dress in, I was so pissed off.

The same thing happened to me, they told me it would be in on/around May 29th and it came in March. Right now it's being stored in my closet but I'm going to move it to FSIL's storage closet where it won't be cramped because my closet isn't the best place to keep it. I have to lay the dress out on my bed each day when I leave because I don't want it to get damaged.
But if you get it altered at a specialist they will store it for you, that's what I'm going to do. I'm not using DB's alterations; they pissed me off too much.

Re: Dress pick up question
It must really depend on the store because the bridal salon I'm dealing with is holding my gown in storage.

Re: Dress pick up question
Many of the salons hold your dress and keep in storage until you are reday for your fiting, which is normally 2 months prior to your wedding.
I know with David's Bridal, I belive you have to take the dress home with you and keep with you until you are ready for your fittings. I dont believe they hold on storage, but the majority do hold for you.

Re: Dress pick up question
I bought my dress at kleinfeld and they told me that they hold the dress till the month of the wedding. Just call them and ask if they hold the gown at the store.
