Dress question

Dress question

I haven't started looking yet and am not really sure where to even start...can you guys recommend some places?
Also, this is probably a dumb question, but do all places have dresses in larger sizes? I'm about a 16/18 and am afraid that most dresses they have to try on are in smaller sizes.

TIA!

Re: Dress question

I went to Pronovias NYC, Bridal Reflections Massapequa, and Babylon Bridal.

I personally did not have the best experience with Babylon Bridal- it may have just been me though (I had sprained my ankle and it was hurting me), since I have heard others say they had great experiences there.

I ended up purchasing my gown from Pronovias. They were great! I highly recommend them. Bridal Reflections was also great, they just didn't have 'the one'. I will probably use them for my bridesmaids.

As far as sizes- I think I tried on one dress that was actually bigger than my size. I wouldn't worry. Bridal stores are experienced with dealing with brides of all different shapes and sizes, and are accommodating to all. I don't think you will have any problems

Re: Dress question

Most if not all Bridal Shops have dresses in all sizes. Try David's Bridal, Fantasia, Demetrios, Paradise.. Im sure you will find a beautiful dress!

I'm getting my dress and bm dresses from Lillette's in Bellmore. I also went to Bridal Reflections in Carle Place and Priscilla of Boston in Manhasset but they were more out of my price range.

Re: Dress question

Definitely David's Bridal has larger size dresses. I would just call some bridal salons in your area and ask if they have larger samples to try. Also post this topic on the 2010 boards, those girls are very knowledgable. Good luck and Have fun!

If you're just starting and aren't really sure, I might suggest RK Bridal in NYC. They let you select all your dresses yourself from the racks (no frills place), but there are consultants there who can help you too. You can try on 7. At least you can use your stop there to get a sense of shapes and styles. Then, come back (they don't require appointments) or go somewhere else to look at more in the style/shape you've selected.

I actually just got my dress today I am a size 20 so I had many of the same apprehensions as you do. I went to Davids bridal and they had a ton of dresses in my size they also came out with a new fall line and are starting to get them in. I went to the on in Massapequa and they are amazing. The staff is so nice!
This is the dress I got I absolutely love it!

Even though I agree you can try on what you want and they do have bigger sizes, the lady who helped me made me feel like the hugest person in the world! I wear a 12 in normal clothes and she went out of her way to say I couldn't try on any dresses unless they were a size 18 because I was too big! I left in tears. Just a warning, maybe it will be better for you! Just remember that bridal sizes are like 2-3 sizes bigger than your clothes size... GOOD LUCK!!!

Oh and I loved Kleinfelds and Lillettes! They both made me feel like a princess!!!

Re: Dress question

I am about a 16/18 also. I had the same concerns before I went shopping. I ended up buying in BR in Carle place but I also went to the Massapequa store. I went to both because I was told they carry different dresses, which was true, some of the same though of course. I found the Massapequa store had more samples that were my size that I could zip all the way up. But both store had many samples that were around a size 12, I was able to put them on and they work their magic pinning and clipping the dress so it looks normal from the front. The sample of my dress was a 12 but I was able to see what it will look like when it comes in my size.

Good Luck! Let us know how it goes!

Re: Dress question

I'm a size 20 in dresses and I was able to try on dresses at David's Bridal, Bridal Reflections, Estelle's, The wedding center in Commack, and Lillettes [which is where I found 'the one']

Some of the dresses were small, but they were able to get them on, just not close the back and some were too big so they needed to be clipped.
They will work with you, don't be nervous, it's a great experience!

Re: Dress question

Every store has a wide variety of sizes. Its just annoying when you love one dress and its not the size you want. (thats what I am having trouble with) its bigger and even though they can pull it tight it still doesnt show how it will truly fall on me. Grrr. By no means am i tiny it just so happens the Maggie sample is in a bigger size.. I think i am going to go for it.

DEF> go to Lillettes in Bellmore, Paradise was good too, i didn't like one in babylon ( iforgot the name) Village bridal maybe? I just felt weird there idk

Good luckkk
