When you all went to look at dresses did you have an idea of what you wanted? I think wedding dresses are pretty on other brides but I honestly haven't found one that screams try me on. And I REFUSE to spend thousands on a dress.
Did anyone go to a shop and go show me what you have or what you think will look good.

i did... and i got the complete opposite of what i thought i wanted...
dont be afraid to try on dresses you didnt think you would be interested in...
ETA:i also refused to spend thousands on a dress.... my mother assumed i was picking davids bridal for that reason... so she said we didnt have to go to DB for the dress...

Re: Dress Question 9 million and 2
I brought pictures of things I had found online, and they started pulling from those first. When none of those caught my eye, they started pulling what they thought might be what I was looking for.....and they were right All I knew was I wanted strapless and either a-line or a ballgown. But I tried on mermaid style dresses as well just to be sure.

Re: Dress Question 9 million and 2
one suggestion. go to davids by yourself. try on a bunch of different styles
that was the first place i went before even looking online just to understand what style i wanted the most.
i went by myself (customer service s u c ke d, so no one really bothered me) and i just had fun playing dress up in the dressing room. haha

Re: Dress Question 9 million and 2
I was set on getting my dress at David's for $ reasons, so I only looked at their dresses. Didn't want to fall in love with a dress that I straight-up could not afford. I went there with a bunch of style numbers written down (from browsing their site) and explained to the saleswoman what my general style was. She asked if I wanted any poof/train and I was adamant - NO. I mentioned that I liked ruching, and she talked me into trying on a dress that she thought would look great on me BUT it had a train. Not much poof. It was the frontrunner of the three that I narrowed it down to...and then I went on my own to try all three on, and the one the saleslady talked me into trying on was the one I ordered. I loved it; it fit me like a glove and I felt like MYSELF in it. Like, if I had to run across the street from David's and grab something in a pharmacy, I'd rock that dress.
So the lesson here is...let the saleswoman know what you like and don't like, but be open-minded. I adored a few dresses that I just couldn't carry on my frame...see what they suggest. You never know!

i knew what i wanted... i tried a lot of other kinds of dresses to make sure i wanted a ballgown and not a slimmer silhouette... i went in with pictures and everything.... i let them bring out what i wanted and a few that they thought might look nice... just go in with an open mind, youll be surprised

Re: Dress Question 9 million and 2
Honestly, I liked a lot of styles and had NO idea what would look good. I went to David's bridal just to waste their time and check out some different styles. I didn't have any intention of buying anything.
I tried on:
This looked really good, but was a little too sexy (altho my mom liked it a lot, go figure)
Then I tried on:
I loved the shape! I thought this dress would be worthless, but it turned out to flatter me the most! After that night, I mostly tried on fit and flare, trumpet and mermaid style dresses at other bridal salons. There was a poof skirt here and there, but they weren't me. In the end, I bought a dress that was considered mermaid.
Go to David's and try on 3 or 4 different style gowns to see what flatters you most. Then go on from there.

Re: Dress Question 9 million and 2
I went to my first dress shopping appointment with a clear idea in my head of what I wanted- what I got was nothing even remotely close. A good bridal store will definitely be able to tell you what styles will flatter your body type and then once you start trying on you'll get a better idea of what you're looking for!

i loved that dress! and it's not something i was looking at. (they called it the JLo dress haha).
i personally bought something WAY different than what i thought. i had a ton of pictures of ballgowns, tulle dresses, really funky and far out couture looks...but they all were full.
well once i tried them on, they all seemed to 'swallow me up' and they were all dress and no Alyssa.
i wound up getting a slim a-line (still funky though haha)
