I have 2 questions. First, I asked the guy doing my alterations to make the back into a corsset and he just sewed ribbon from side to side. I feel lie it makes the dress look cheap. Should I have him remove it? Also, There's a visable open space where the zipper goes down, is that normal? This guy designs & makes beautiful custom gowns but he had no clue when it came to my dress. There are other problems also, I already paid him $350 !!! (that was stupid, I shouldn't have paid all of it) Anyway, the picture of the back is in my album. Any advice would help, thanks!

Re: dress question(sorry kind of long)
I changed mine into a corset - They took out the zipper and put a panel and a corset in there. It looks great! I would show the guy a picture of what you want and ask him to do it. I wish I had a pic of mine to show u - Sorry!

Yes, if you don't like it, tell him to remove it. It does look sort of strange..
Also, I have no idea why your zipper has a gap, but I don't think it should be there.
Here is a picture of my dress where you can see the corset, so maybe you can show him this...
there is no way you should keep it like that!! that's not a corset at all! take it back and demand your money's worth!!!

That gap should definitely not be under the zipper. Is the dress suppossed to be finished?

Your dress has lovely detailing on the back, why would you want to change it into a corset back ?
The ribbons look strange. Also, as the girls mentioned, why is there a gap under your zipper ?

I guess he figured hat if he put the corset in, it would take out all the beautiful detailing. But I wouldn't leave it like it is. Good Luck getting it fixed

Here is the picture of the back for you.
I think he did the ribbon that way because if he did the corset back he would have to take all of your beautiful detail away. I would have him remove the ribbon and not even put a corset back on it. It has beautiful detailing on the back. The gap under your zipper SHOULD NOT be there. Definitely have him fix that!!!!

Re: dress question(sorry kind of long)
Thanks girls! I just needed to make sure I wasn't crazy to go back to him and have him fix it. He doesn't even have room for it there so I had to hang it from a hook in my Grandmothers celling. I may have to forget the $300 and just goto someone else

Re: dress question(sorry kind of long)
Ok, here's the situation. He did NOT do a corset back on your dress. He added ribbon to try to create the ILLUSION of a corset back, but he did it poorly because you can obviously still see the zipper in the middle, and how in the WORLD did he get a GAP UNDER THE ZIPPER???? HUH?!?!
Your dress has beautiful detailing in the back. And it zips up perfectly. So you do not actually need a corset back. In order to make the back into a corset, they will have to cut at least 3 inches from the middle part (like 1-2 inches on either side of the zipper), then create loops on each side to run the ribbon through to make the corset back. Since you don't need it and since your dress has pretty detailing, I'd recommend that you leave it as a zipper back.
Usually you convert the zipper back into a corset back if the dress is too small (this way you can make it bigger without actually adding material). OR you do it just when you prefer the look of a corset back, but the back has to be relatively plain down the center so they can do it.
