Re: Dress question...When did you know???

The gown that I fell in love with is the opposite of what I was looking at. I had an idea of what I was looking for so I tried on dresses that were in the style that I wanted. The owner of the shop told me to try on this one dress and as soon as I put it on, I just knew.

Re: Dress question...When did you know???

I had a picture ripped out of a magazine that I thought I wwanted..it was 4000 dollars, fiance said I could get it, but it seemed rediculous to me to spend that on a dress..so anyhow..I was looking for something similar. Tried on alot of dresses..then went to Davids bridal..tried ona knockoff version of the dress I loved and HATED it..so I tried on more..I had it narrowed down to two dresses..and I needed a break, went to eat and clear my head. Then soemthing made me god home and look through more magaiznes..I looked through an old magazine and saw a picture that I dont remembere ever seeing..and I loved it..I borught it back into Davids Bridal..and they had it..ON CLEARANCE!! I tried it on and I felt so beautiful in it..and my sister started crying.and teh girl who had helped me ALL day said thats it..and then we put the veil on and gloves and people who were their with their daughter came up and told me they had seen me from far away and it was such a pretty dress, etc. I got so many compliments as soon as I put that dress on..I knew I had to get it! You wouldnt believe what I paid for it too because it was a sale item.
My advice to you is take pen and paper and when you are trying on dresses, write down what looks good on you and compare everything..you'll find it...its such a good feeling when you do!! Good luck!!!

Re: Dress question...When did you know???

The dresses that I picked out in the magazines looked not as nice as I wanted them too. I tried on like 10 dresses in the store, and the first one I tried on (which I didnt particularly like on the hanger, but the salesgirl insisted on) was the dress I fell in love with. Even the other people in the dressing area were like that is it. You will know that its the right dress when you try it on, and other dresses dont make you happy. Dont worry, you will find a dress. Dont rule anything out until you try it on! A style you might think you wont like you might fall in love wtih.

i tried on all the dresses i liked in magazines. nothing looked right... so i just started trying on dresses with a similar look of what i was going for, and i just found it. My mom was with me and she said she knew it was my dress!
i wanted a chiffon or georgette dress, not poofy at all, but they looked horrible on me!

Re: Dress question...When did you know???

I went to so many dress shops and everything I tried on I didnt like. I liked how they looked on the hanger just not how they looked on me. I even went to one place and the place would not even let me look at dresses. He picked out dresses he thought would suit me. I was livid with that place and their sales associates.

I then went to a place in Brooklyn and tried on 6 dresses. The first 5 were ok. The 6th dress the sales girl told me she saw it and said it had my name all over it. i walked out and everyone started crying. I was like its ok its a nice dress, but yet I didnt want to take it off.

That night and the next few days that followed I couldnt get it out of my head. All i thought about was that dress.

I went back a week later and had to put the dress back on. When I asked who the designer was it turned out its made by the owner of the store. I was just in awe of the dress. I didnt want to take it off. I walked around the store like I was a princess. I wanted to walk out of the store wearing the dress.

That is when I knew it was the dress for me.

Re: Dress question...When did you know???

I went to one bridal salon and they gave me everything I did NOT want then I went to my bridal salon the following year (this Jan.) Anyway, it was THE first dress I put on. I had pulled out one dress and then the owner said, well if you like this dress, you are going to love this one. I knew as soon as I saw it. I literally tried on like 30 dresses. We went on a cold day and no one was coming into the salon so the owner let me try on whatever. She even had got some new dresses in and she just wanted me to try them on so she could see what they looked like.

I was in there for 4 hours and everytime I tried on a dress I just kept thinking about the first one.

I tried it on again and this time she made me go to the end of the salon pulled the veil over my face and gave me a fake boquet and told me to walk to my mom like it was my wedding day. Well I was crying, my mom was crying and even the owner was crying. The owner's daughter was like 'was that the first one?' and I said yes and she said that is how it usually happens.

Re: Dress question...When did you know???

I went to Macy's bridal and told the woman that was helping me that I wanted a ballgown. So she pulled about 6 dresses off the rack, and the 2nd one that I tried on was my favorite. It's a halter top and it just fit my body perfectly.
I still went and tried on other dresses at another salon, but they couldn't even come close to the halter dress. Then I tried on the halter dress again to show my mom, and the woman that helped me out that time said, 'I make dresses on the side, and I can tell you right now that this dress was meant for you'. So, that made up my mind!

Re: Dress question...When did you know???

I looked in the mirror and could actually imagine myself walking down the aisle in the gown...that's how I knew! I tried on dozens of gowns before that -- all very different from what I originally had in mind. This was just 'it.'

And never judge a gown by what it looks like on the hanger - doesn't matter if you hate lace and the gown is covered in it or its short sleeves or whatever - you don't know until its on!!

Re: Dress question...When did you know???

I went to the store looking at everything. I tried on three dresses and they were nice but not me. My sister suggested one off of another rack unlike anything else I tried on. Immediately i knew it. I was comfortable and confident (a rarity for me). My mom started crying and said thats it. My sisiter said thats a Shannon dress if I ever saw one. Everyone that looks at the pic says the same thing. The dress screams my name. YAY!!!!! I want to wear it everyday. When we went into the store I told my mom there was no way i was buying a dress. It was the first place we looked an I wanted to look around. I looked at her and she bought it immediately. I can't wait for it to come in!

Re: Dress question...When did you know???

I was at Macys Bridal Salon, the second appointment of my first day of shopping. I saw another bride trying on this gorgeous ballgown, and I said, 'wow, I want to try that on next!' When I put it on, I said, 'I love this dress.' It was the only dress that got the word 'love' from me. Also, my mom and my sister, who had been pretty much against strapless gowns, thought it was the one for me, even thought it was strapless. I went to Kleinfeld's a couple of weeks later, and couldn't find anything I liked better, or that could get my mind off that dress, so I made my appointment and ordered it. I think you know when you put it on and truly feel like a bride.

Re: Dress question...When did you know???

I went to a bunch of stores, had some idea of what i liked, but when I tried them on it was completely different. Then I tried one that I loved, but unlike most of the girls, I wasn't sure it was the one. So, I dragged my mom and sister to three or four more places and tried on other stuff, then went back and got the one I really liked. Which, by the way, is nothing like all the stuff I thought I would want.

I tried on all different types of dresses. When I tried on THE dress I got goosebumps and just didnt want to take it off...everyone cried. I still looked around after I saw it and couldnt get it out of my head.

So off we were to purchase the gown!!! It was so exciting!!

Re: Dress question...When did you know???

I had ripped out a ton of pictures from magazines & made appointments at 3 other places. Of course, the day I went I forgot to bring all the pictures! The Wedding Salon of Manhasset was the first place I went, & my friend got her dress there & had good experinces so I figured I'd go & check them out. That day was the Anne Barge trunkshow & I had seen her gowns online and didn't think they would be for me. But, when I saw her dresses I realized how absolutely gorgeous her dresses are & the workmanship that went into them. So, my dad pointed out my dress to me & said 'try that one one.' It was the third dress I tried, and it was low waisted so I didn't think it would look good. Turns out it was perfect, and I just stood in front of the mirror smiling at myself & my dad was teary eyed. So, that was it!!

Re: Dress question...When did you know???

We went on a whim to go check out the store and it was the 3rd dress I tried on! We saw the dress in ivory on the girl next to me and my mom said 'TRY THAT ON!' and luckily I had already picked it out and then my mom said 'Ohmigosh that's it' and I felt so nice in it! And of course, it was on SALE so hey - how can you say no! lol

Re: Dress question...When did you know???

I had a pic of a dress that I have had since we got engaged. I finally went to look at it but hated it. But I found that one. I knew it was the one when I started to cry! I thought that was a myth!
