Ok girls, I'm back on LI and getting wedding stuff done so here come the rants and vents!!
SOOoooo my mom is super obsessive over the wedding, and she's making me hate it! So today we went to see my dress because it came in (I'll talk good about that later), and I brought the shoes I got which are hot pink flats. I'm not married to the idea of these shoes but it was my first time trying them on. She hated them and flipped out. I need to wear flats and these are the most comfortable ones ever, and I just don't like white shoes (or I haven't found ones I liked), and I ended up like taking them off and throwing them at my MOH saying, I might as well just be barefoot! (Sounds immature but if you were there you would understand).
She then kept flipping out about the veils and wanted to try different ones and didn't like what the saleswoman showed us (even though they were the SAME ones we tried when I ordered the dress). So I tried on the same cathedral length veil that we already liked, and she was like its not poofy enough! So she made me try on a 2nd layer on top of it and put it so high up on my head it was like a fountain and she's like YES, this is a bride! and I said ... no.... no no no this is wayyy too gaudy for me!
She made the whole experience miserable, I felt so bad for my MOH and BM who felt awkward and I tried to be as nice as possible. My mom is a nice person but really and truly a momzilla and thinks the wedding is hers because she watches literally EVERY wedding show ever, and since I don't I obviously don't know what I'm doing.
AHHH ok rant over for now, I'll start another one soon enough, thanks for listening!

Re: Dress Rant/Vent
Vent all you need!
Sorry you had such a bad time, I'm sure your mom means well just not showing it in the right way.
I hope things start getting better for you.

Re: Dress Rant/Vent
you poor thing!!! This makes me dread going dress shopping with my mom bc it will be the SAME FREAKIN WAY!! ahhh Why do our mom's have to be like this?? I love her to so much but man does she drive me crazy sometimes!
I hope you can find something you like and find a way to enjoy doing this with her, but I understand your frustration. Have a glass of wine and call it a night

Ohhhhh..... yes, this is too familiar.
Try not to let it get to you. I know it's hard but I've decided it is what it is and I'm trying to make the best out of it.

Oh no, sorry this happened. You should be enjoying this part the most! Maybe you should sit down with your mom and just explain what YOU like and that it's YOUR wedding and you understand if she wants to give you advice, but you don't have to take it.

Re: Dress Rant/Vent
true... i totally should appreciate that she wants to be involved, BUT its a little too much. It all came to a head today when her me and my dad had like a yelling match in the kitchen, I felt like I was back in high school it was horrible. In the end I ended up feeling really bad and like a bad daughter for not being more patient, but seriously in the moment I really am trying as hard as I can.
In the end the dress fit GREAT, its actually too big, so I do not mind having to pay for those alterations! And yes i guess i'm still on the lookout for shoes :( I really liked the idea of pink shoes!

Re: Dress Rant/Vent
WOW... DEJA VU. I swear.. that sounds EXACTLY like my mother. Don't know if it helps, but here's how I dealt with it:
1. I blew off 'wedding planning' for an entire season. I didn't want to hear it and she would say stuff to me then kind of back off and say 'sorry.... I forgot..'
2. So, even though I 'stopped planning, I took her to look for a MOB dress and out to a nice lunch. She was SO psyched..
3. I bought her this book at Hallmark 'It's her wedding, but I can cry if I want to.' It's for Mothers of the Bride.
4. When I went back to planning, I just listened to her ideas, while very nicely turning down things I didn't like.
Just try to listen and seem to geniuinely need her help. She doesn't want you to get married and leave. My mom gets pissed when I say 'Next year I'll be married and I'll be gone.' So, just try to keep her involved, while also letting her know what you want.
