dress shopping........

ok this may be another silly question--b/c i am on a roll today w/ them---but, what do you wear (undergarments) when you go dress shopping--a regular bra?stockings? do you bring shoes of the approximate heel size you want?

what is the typical dress size that you try on--what is the sample size? or do they have the same dress in a few sizes to try on?

and the last question--- you just call up to schedule an appointment -right? and then someone is 'assigned' to you at the shop to help you---they bring you dresses in a particular style you want and some they think might look good on you?---any info on dress shopping would help---also is it better to go during the week at night than on the weekends?---ok i am sorry for these questions but i feel like i don't know what to do thanks.......

Re: dress shopping........

I wore a strapless long line bra. Most salons have them there, but hardly any had my size, so i brought my own.

I didn't bring shoes until I went to re-try on the dress I wanted to buy. You don't need shoes though.

Most dresses I tried on were either a 10 or a 12.

I made appointments with all the salons I visited. I went to:

Bonaventure
Lillette's
Bridal Reflections - Massapequa
Princess Bridals
Cathy's
Lynbrook Wedding Center
Bridal Garden
Macys Manhasset

I ended up buying my gown at Princess Bridals.

Good luck with your search!

Re: dress shopping........

I just wore my regular bra and undies, nothing special. Some places provided a strapless bra/corset and a slip, others didn't. Typically the dresses in most shops are 10-14, they also carry larger sizes, but I'm not too sure how they run. Wedding gowns generally run small, so you will probably wear a size larger than you wear normally. If the dress is too large they will clip it for you, if it is too small, they clip it closed the best possible and you have to use your imagination.
When you make an appointment, there is usually one person helping you out and depending on the place, they will either bring dresses to you or they may let you look through the racks and pick out ones you like. They usually will then help you get into the dresses because, if you haven't already tried dresses on, they can be quite tricky to get into and buttoned etc. One good thing I found while trying on dresses was to take a picture of myself in the dress. Not all places will allow this, but it was very helpful in deciding. The one dress I thought I loved looked terrible in the pictures. Hope this is helpful to you!

Re: dress shopping........

okay #1 - i wore regular bra (that i took off because of the straps. ) Nothing is going to fit you 'right' so the bra really doesn't matter. Stockings will only serve the purpose of making you more comfy when your bare ass is hanging out under flourescent lights! They will probably have a shoe - again nothing will be the right length (if you are 5' like me) so it didn't really matter.

I tried on what seemed to be mostly 10's. I am little - around 110 lbs and SHORT ( see above) and my dress was ordered in an 8.

You call to make an appt. They assign you somebody. I would say if you can do during the week, that is best. And a day w. no trunk show is best (unless it is a designer you like) And DO NOT rule out certain 'styles'. I said NO SHEATH and NO LACE or APPLIQUE , and WHITE ONLY!- got a sheath with lace AND applique - IVORY! Good luck - bring your patience and your enthusiasm!
