Re: Dress shopping ...
I went without my family first, and tried on a bunch of silhouettes, etc
I got an idea of what I liked first, then shopped with the peanut gallery

Re: Dress shopping ...
I went with just my mom. I really wanted it to be something special for just the two of us. I went with very specific styles in mind....and ended up choosing something totally different from what I thought I wanted.
Best advice is to be open minded. Don't get a certain style stuck in your head until you try on different styles.

Re: Dress shopping ...
How fun!!!
I went in with different types that I liked...and I as I started trying them on I realized I did not like big heavy ballgowns at all...which I always pictured myself in. So as I tried on dresses I found bits and pieces of different ones that I liked...so by the time I hit more stores, I knew exactly what I wanted...it was just a matter of finding the right dress. And I went with my mom for most of it...and brough back my BM to see a few that were in the running.
Good luck!!

Re: Dress shopping ...
Im so tiny 4'11 that I know that most dresses will eat me up, so I kind of have a few ideas in mind.
Im glad to hear you say that some of you went without the whole army at first. I dont even want to tell them im going tomorrow. I feel like I need to go one time on my own just to get some ideas, and then bring them back with me.

Re: Dress shopping ...
ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF IT! Picking a dress was probably one of the best experiences of wedding planning for me...but you need to listen to what you feel inside. At first I picked a dress that everyone loved...I went home and realized that I didnt love it as much as I loved everyone telling me they loved it (if that makes sense lol) so we went back and I ended up choosing a dress that I saw in a magazine and couldn't take my eyes off of.....when you know, you know
good luck!!!
where are you going dress shopping??

Re: Dress shopping ...
I printed out a bunch of dresses I liked off the internet and called around to some salons to see if they carried the samples and started from there. As you try on dresses you will soon start noticing what it is you are really looking for and what you don't like. From there the lady at the salon should be able to recommend some other dresses to you based on your likes and dislikes.
I had my heart set on finding one dress in particular and refused to make a final decision until I found the sample and tried it on. Good thing I did because it was exactly everything I wanted and that is what I wore on our wedding day

Re: Dress shopping ...
I knew in general what I liked... but didn't limit myself too much. I went to the store and told them to pull me anything that had 'bling' on it and was fitted. I tried on maybe 20 gowns and started to get discouraged... but then they found the most perfect gown for me and I fell in love!!!
I went with my mom, MIL, and two bridesmaids.
