Dress shopping

Dress shopping

When everyone went dress shopping how many people did you bring? I feel like every time I talk to someone I feel almost obligated to ask them to come! So far it's my mom, grandma, MOH and sister-in law. When I mentioned it to 2 of my friends (who I haven't asked yet to be bridesmaids) that I was going, I feel like they almost got insulted I didn't ask them to come. My sister-in law said that with all these people coming to be prepared for everyones input so I'm not sure if I should ask my 2 friends.

Did anyone else feel obligated to ask people to come?

Oh...and it's not that I don't want them to come I'm just not sure if I want a lot of people there. I'm weird I don't know lol

I think for the first few times I go, I'd like it to be just me and my mom (who is paying for it so she has to be there lol) this way its only one other person and I don't have to worry about too much input.
But when it comes down to decision time I may have more come along, either my sister or my MOH if shes in town. To help me decide and so they can be part of the experience too. But this would only be after I've narrowed it down to a few dresses or styles so I don't get over whelmed with other's opinions.
Maybe doing that would help..then you can bring a lot when you decide, but for the preliminary leave them all at home lol.

I only brought my mom. I felt that too man opinions would overwhelm me. When I really was in love with a dress. I brought back my MOH and one of my bridesmaid. Once I ordered it I showed all my bridesmaids.

The first time I went I brought my whole bridal party and my mom. It was a disaster. I had way too many opinions flying at me and I couldn't take it. When I went to try on my dream dress I went by myself!

Some places have limits on how many people you can bring. The first bridal salon i went to only allowed for 2 people. Knowing i was likely going more than once I invited different people each time. Mom and my sister (MOH) came the first time. The second time I brought my best friend and asked her there to be a BM in the wedding and the third time took a different BM ( one who's opinion I really trust and I know she will tell me whats up) and a friend who had bought her dress at the store i was going to. It was fun to have people there but I also found it distracting and it made it hard for me to focus on what I really liked. Its a fun experience, but since I'm pretty indecisive it was important to keep the group small. I know at one point my FMIL asked me about going and I sort of feel bad I didnt bring her, but I'm sure she will just be happy I found something I love.

My mom requested that the first time I go, that it would be just us two -- (I am an only child and she has been looking forward to this moment). So it was just us two, and I found the dress. We went back for the trunk show and met the designer a month later. For that time, I asked my Mom, Grandma, 2 FSIL's and FMIL to come. No friends. It was really special and a fun time. I am glad that I had them all come. Had I not asked them, I probably would have invited them to a fitting or to come see the dress after the fact.

I am bringing my mom, sister and aunt to the first 2 appointments then adding in my FMIL for the last apt. There is NO WAY I am letting anyone else come... I'm already nervous for 4 opinions! lol

I brought FH to a few appointments, and brought 1 GF to one each. When I got my gown, I ended up going by myself. I just couldn't deal with opinions. If I loved it, then that's the one I was choosing. And I feel just fine going alone.

I'm nervous for opinions too! This will be the first time ever trying on a wedding dress so I'm already getting nervous about that let alone hearing what everyone thinks!

I completely understand... I am definitely going to hear what everyone has to say but know that ultimately it is my decision. I want to feel a certain way on my wedding day and I truly think my family understands that.

Truth is, when my sister got married a few years ago, my mom and aunt cried when she put on 'the one'... I am almost thinking its not the one unless they cry lol

My mom and two sisters (one of them is my MOH, the other a JBM) are coming to NY from out of this country, just to help me with dress shopping. I feel obligated to take them. However, they can be very opinionated, and i don't want to feel overwhelmed. I'm considering going to a salon myself before they come, so that I can feel comfortable in what styles I like. Oh, FH's mom and grandma also want to come when I go dress shopping, so it's really overwhelming already. I might bring my dad, FMIL and FH's grandma along once I've finalized a few dresses or found 'the dress', so that they can see me in it.

I'm bringing my mom, two sisters and gay bestie. My style is very different from my sisters and mom, and I felt like I needed him there for an opinion more like my own. I don't think you should have your 2 friends just because they are insulted you didnt invite them- only bring the people who you REALY want there. Take your two friends once you find the one!
