Going for my first dress shopping today, at the Gown Company in the East Village... and I will be alone! Booked the appointment, and then found out all of my friends and sisters were working. I enjoy shopping alone, and do it often, but for my wedding dress...?
a lil' sad, but I am NOT cancelling... I am rather independant, strong willed, and the idea of forming my own opinions on the dresses without outside influence is secretly appealing...
Just wanted to know if anyone went dress shopping alone at any point? How was that experience for you?
Thanks!

Re: Dress hopping alone?
I shopped alone my first time. It was aast minite thing &I senseed my mom didn't want to go into NYC unles I didn't find soemthign on LI first, so I wnet alone. And I forgot my E-ring, so I msut have looked relaly sad. !
later FH & a friend were saying, 'yeah. .. right...sure you're getting married' It was good though. I couldn't have decided by muself, but I wnet to RK, & it was good to jsut wander & look at everyting & then to try on things my mom would have hated!

I never shop alone, even if I'm shopping for jeans. I always want other opinions. I wouldn't be able to do that with my wedding dress. As long as you take someone back to see it on you then you should be ok. I wouldn't buy anything before you get opinions. JMO. Good Luck

I never went alone, but I'd thought about it. I found my dress very early on in my search, but if I hadn't I know I would have gone out at least once by myself. I can't clothes shop with people and dress shopping with others was stressful. I think it will be good for you because you'll be able to zoom in on what you love instead of being influenced by others. You can always go back with someone to look at the top contenders.

Re: Dress Shopping alone?
I learned the hard way that shopping for a wedding dress is better alone or just with my mom. Sometimes there can be too many opinions. Case in point - my mom and I found 2 dresses we really liked and brought 3 relatives including MOH with us to see them. We thought maybe one of the dresses would be 'it' and they could help us choose which one. Well, their opinions were all over the place AND they hated one of the ones I liked! After hearing their opinions, it was hard to look at the dresses in the same way. Needless to say I didn't get any of them. My mom and I went out again by ourselves and found my 'one.'
I also went out by myself once and actually relished that experience the most. It was just me and the dresses.

I like shopping for a dess alonme it is easier- i have a good sense of what i like and don't like - i got to try on all the different styles to find the best - then i brought friends and my mom to help my try to narrow it down. it worked better for me

I usually went with my mom and MOH but one day - I just said I have to do this alone. It was the best. I am pretty independent as well and I just needed to be by myself and stare at the dresses I was considering and see which I was comfortable in. THat was the day I made my decision (well kind of - on the way to buy that dress I stopped in one other store and found thet THAT IS IT dress) an my mind was all changed. But I must say the time by myself was very appealing and beneficial.

Go for it...if you like something, bring someone back with you. My best friend got hers alone and she got a beautiful dress and a great deal. Oh Bunny I have utmost confidence in you to do this alone!!
I bought mine alone off the internet..lol.

Re: Dress Shopping alone?
YES!!!!! My mom is gone and none of my bridesmaids were available half the time. It was actually fun when I went alone, and I found my dream dress that day!! Enjoy it and if you ever need a second opinion you could always bring someone back to the store.
