Dress Shopping -- Losing my mind!!!! (really long, sorry)
Ok, I've never really posted to vent before, so I'm sorry if this is whiny. I thought dress shopping was going to be so much fun. I waited a while because I had gained weight, and wanted to lose a little before looking. So now I really feel stressed that I need to order really soon because I know gowns take time to come in. So, I went out shopping 3 times. I'm so confused. I thought that I wanted a dress with silver beading and a ballgown -- very cinderella looking. Now I found out that ball gowns really don't look good on my 5'2 frame. A-line tends to be more flattering on me. So then, I tried on tons of dresses with silver beading, A-line skirts. The size 10 samples fit me, which is nice, but they all start to look the same. Then I thought I found the one at RK bridal -- I posted it the other day -- Casablanca 1885. My mom was going nuts about how well it fit, and how good it looks on me. Its all lace, not the silver beading that I had imagined. I'm not sure if it stood out to me because it was so different from everything else I was trying on. I thought it was probably the one. Also, it was very light, which I liked, and I think it was more flattering because the A-line wasn't that full. Then yesterday I went tot he Saks sample sale, and found a Kenneth Pool dress that was stunning. The beading was exquisite, and it was a small ball gown, and looked good on me. The back had a beautiful train with amazing detailing on it. The only thing I didn't like was how the train would look bustled. Too much fabric on my already big butt. I loved the front and the top. But, I wasn't sure if I liked it better than the Casablanca dress from the day before. I thought I was nuts, this was a top designer gown that I would never have been able to afford otherwise, but at the same time I wasn't 100% sure so I didn't buy it. I don't regret it, because the train wasn't for my body type, but now I'm scared that I'm never going to find the one. To top this all off, I went through wedding magazines with FH last night -- we've done this alot. In the past I always showed him the ball gown dresses that I liked and told him that was the style I was probably going to get. He loved them. Now that's not what I want anymore-- I know this sounds stupid, but I don't want to disappoint him. Last night he pointed at straight dresses and said 'that doesn't look like a wedding dress, just a regular white dress'. Then I pointed out A-lines, and he asked if they looked like wedding gowns and hesitated before saying yes. I called him on that, and he said I'm being crazy. I guess I am. Venting here has helped, thanks! Anyone go through this? I really want it to be perfect, and I'm really stressing myself out. Thank you for reading this. Any thoughts, advice from any of you who went through this would be appreciated!

Oh sweetie! Don't worry! I went through the same thing and am so happy I didn't just pick one because it was the first one that looked right. Its important to see all different styles and how they flatter you. Space it out a little, stick to a few dresses per trip, You'll see a style won't work, and poof! that style is elliminated! Don't worry about your FH, you know you will look like a bride no matter what you wear! Try not to stress!

yes I been there I am also 5'2 and thought I would love to wear a nice ball gown but everyone I tried on I looked like I got lost in it so I incorporated an A line style/ball gown (see in my albumn) although you may be able to see the details of it anyway I think you feel stuck right now keep trying and you will find 'the one' however I never got the feeling everyone says they get but I knew I loved my dress and didnt want to get out of it in the bridal store- as for fh no matter what you walk down the aisle with he is going to be blown away- you are showing him too many options and that is why he is getting this invision of 'what looks like a true wedding gown'- Best of Luck! I am sure everything will work out for you!!!

i was you a month ago! no worries. keep looking. my dress was the last one i tried on. i was surprised by what i picked. i never would have thought it looked good on me. u will know its it when u compare it to all the others and u still like it the best. i liked a bunch too but there was always just a little something off that did not make it 'the one' i went to 6 places... i am 5' and looked ridiculous in ball gowns -and some dresses imo did not look like a wedding gown but not becuz of a line vs ball gown but because of how simple it was like if i can easily picture the dress coming in black and wearing it as a guest then it was not fancy enough. also u can make a line dresses fuller with a slip and u will look like a bride!

Re: Dress Shopping -- Losing my mind!!!! (really long, sorry)
i am 5 feet tall and weigh 90 lbs i am REALLY TINY so i thought everything would look stupid on me....
my favorite dresses in magazines were lace dresses with no beading with straight or a-line bottom - every dress i tried on in this style looked horrible on me! i also tried on mermaid/trumpet style dresses - those looked better and i thought i found one that i really liked - i kept comparing every dress to it.....then for the hell of it i tried on a very full a-line dress with a pick up bottom (more like scrunched) a plain top, and beading around the hip.....something i NEVER thought i would pick for myself - and it was the exact type of dress they say small girls should stay away from....well it ended up looking stunning on me and i LOVED it....i brought FH shopping with me - he really liked the dress too (not sure how you feel about this, but maybe his imput would make you more confident in your decision).....the dress was the total opposite of what i was looking for. i didnt buy it yet but i love this dress and im going to try it on again saturday......give yourself some to think it over......
is there a bridal salon that carries both dresses so you can try them both on back to back? maybe that will help you?
good luck!

Future Mulligan -- thank you for your advice! I remember your posting about bringing your FH with you -- I'd actually love to do that, but I don't think he wants to see it! I do talk to him about every dress outing I have, and believe it or not, he loves hearing about it. Good advice on just trying on everything an anything, I think I will. Thanks to all who read and gave advice. Keep it coming -- very reassuring!

Don't stress sweetie!!! You are going to look amazing... im 5 foot 1 and I am afraid of the same type of thing... ball gowns looking ridiculous... everything looking ridiculous.. and im also waiting because I want to lose 15 lbs before even going shopping (I do have over a year.. so I have a lot of time) but still I was stressing already.. and then I realized that I was making what should be a FUN shopping experience... a STRESSFUL ONE... AND... not to mention... I haven't even STARTED yet .... so I think you should do what i am planning to do... TRY ON EVERY DRESS THAT TICKLES YOUR FANCY I was just at a wedding where a five foot 2 bride wore an amazingly beautiful puffy fluffy ball gown and she looked GORGEOUS!!!! ..... it's your day... you look for whatever you want

Re: Dress Shopping -- Losing my mind!!!! (really long, sorry)
try not to expect to start crying when you find 'the one'. I went to a million stores and shopped around for about 3 months before ordering... I tried on all kinds of gowns and didn't end up with something i t hought i would... just pick a gown that you like and that you feel good in... eventually there comes a time where you have to make the decision on which one to order. Could I have looked another 3 months and maybe found something else... probably.. but you can't do that. You have a little more time.. go to as many stores as you can and try to just have 1 to compare it to... then if nothing else matches up.. you know the one you have been comparing other gowns to is the one.

Re: Dress Shopping -- Losing my mind!!!! (really long, sorry)
I had the same problem and I tried on so many dresses that I felt like I would never find one. My suggestion that worked for me, I went alone. All the other times that I went with my girls or my mom I was going crazy. Who liked what and who didnt and this and that. I went alone and tried 4 stores. the last one had the dress. I knew that it was the one. Then I brought them all back to see and I felt good. Dont worry that FH thinks he wil see u in a ball gown. If you feel radiant you will exhude radiance and knock his socks off. You still have some time. Good luck and if you want to FM me for mental support feel free.. Good luck shopping

Thank you! Excellent idea about going alone -- I did think about it, but it thought it would be weird. I'm going with my mom after work today -- back to RK bridal, but maybe I will try to go alone another time.

Dont get frustrated, I thought I wanted a huge ball gown too but then when I tried them on it made me look wider and shorter then my already short 5'3'. I went with a full a-line and will have a full slip underneath. If you're not totally into the lace then dont wear it. If you love that one dress except for the bustle they might be able to change it so you like it better. Dont give up!!

Re: Dress Shopping -- Losing my mind!!!! (really long, sorry) -- new update at bottom
Thank you ladies, you are amazing! I went shopping again today, and get this -- tried on a dress with cap sleeves, plunging v-neck, and pick ups ---- my waist looked tiny and I felt like cinderella! This just might be my style -- and I really just tried it on for kicks. I really liked it alot. I felt like a kid playing dress up in it, but I really thought I'd hate pick-ups on me, and it looked good! So, now I'm more confused than ever, but it was fun to wear that, so I'm actually looking forward to my next day out. Taking a few days off. Thanks to all for your encouragement and advice
