So, my mom and I want to find a bridal salon that is relatively low-key and will let you search the racks. Can anyone recommend some places? I know about the Bridal Garden in NYC and want to try there, but are all of the bridal salons on LI the type where you need to make an appointment weeks in advance and have some old ladies fawn over you? I mean, I'll do it if I have to, but it's not really my style. Just curious!!!

Re: Dress Shopping Question
You can go to Ariana Studios on Jerich Tpke in Floral Park. They are very low key and will help if necessary. i bought my gown through them, my bm's gowns, both mom's gowns. they are so sweet and the service is great..

Re: Dress Shopping Question
I felt like I needed a sales woman's help. When you see the dresses on the racks and they are in the plastic, it's hard to tell when they are going look like on you. If you go to a shop where there is a lady helping just you, you can tell them what you'd like to try and they can pull the dresses for you. Try Lillettes- they women there are nice and not pushy. Also, Bridal Suite of Bay Shore is great! (That's where I ended up getting my dress)

I am not one for the fussy bride thing either, but I had a great experience at Bridal Suite of Centereach. You do need to make an appointment, but Beverly (?) was great- she really listened and attended, didn't try to 'sell' me anything. HTH!

This is where I ordered my dress and BMs dress also, they are very nice there and are willing to help, you don't feel rushed or forced into buying anything, and you could try on as many dresses as you want. I have had a pleasant experience so far. It's a one shop place, on the first floor which is called The Wedding Plaza, where all of the dresses are, then upstairs is Ariana Studios photo/video, a florist (who I am using, he is great), a travel agency and limos, they are ALL very nice and helpful. I also forgot to mention downstairs is a man who sells invitations and favors, really nice stuff.
I think the only day you need an appointment to try on gowns is Sundays, but other than that, you can go any day to browse and try on gowns.

Re: Dress Shopping Question
I LOVE the women at Fantasia Bridal Center in Rocky Point. I only stopped in there for convenience and they were the best of 4 places I went to. Their dresses are in the BEST shape and condition and the women are the SWEETEST!!! They will do anything and everything for you.

This is what i was going to suggest. They let you look around. HOWEVER, I do suggest making an appointment somewhere and let them help you. If I had looked on my own I would never have picked up the dress I wound up getting. Those ladies know what they are talking about. I had one thing in my head and wound up withsome thing totally different because of the help I got in the store.

Re: Dress Shopping Question
Thanks for the suggestions! I am actually going to Lillette's today because I have heard good things about them (hi Sam!), and Macy's in Manhasset on Sunday (I've heard mixed reviews, but oh well, there's a dress I am hunting for.) I will make some more calls and we'll see. I totally understand about wanting some sales help, and I don't claim to know every style that will work for me or anything like that. I just hate hovering salespeople and I have a pretty good idea of what I want (and definitely not a strapless dress, which eliminates 90% of the dresses off the bat - I'm so difficult) so I don't want to get forced into trying on things I don't want. We'll see!
