I'm going dress shopping on Saturday. I'd like to go to a few places but I'm not sure what time to make my appointments. About how long did you ladies spend in a shop? I want to time them just right if possible.
Also, where do you suggest I go? I'm plus sized and horrified at the idea of going to a place and having a size 4 dress pinned to me.
Thanks!

Re: Dress Shopping Questions
when i went looking i only went to maybe 2 a day...it takes a while to try on dresses...do you have several in mind that you are interested in? i did and that helped me out in narrowing down stores to check out

Re: Dress Shopping Questions
Most dress shops have larger size gowns just for that reason because not everyone is a size 4 so they usually range in sizes from 10-12 and sometimes a little smaller.. I bought my gown at Burtons in Melville.. Its very frustrating to shop in there because its over crowded but they gave the best price after contacting over 10 stores on the island and in queens.. They gave me the Bridal gown 600 dollars less than what it was in Macys.. Macys in Manhasset has alot of dresses but most carries Demetrios and a few others.. I also went to the wedding center and Bridal Reflections Good luck.. Each appointment took a little over an hour.. you have to figure in looking for the dress ten trying it on and sitting in it if you love it!! Have fun!

Re: Dress Shopping Questions
I went to Bridal Elegance in Dix Hills- they were amazing- I was there for 2 hours - also they carry plus sized samples in some gowns. hth
eta- i found it a little physically tiring trying on dresses after a while- so I wouldnt do more than 1-2 shops

I took like 1½ - 2 hours in each store, but probably because I'm picky.. I went to more than 10 stores. When you call to make appts, you can ask what size their samples are - they'll tell you.

Thank you girls! I sent some emails out to places beforehand to ask if they had sample sizes so i wouldnt waste my time or theirs. I think my first trip I'll try Burtons & Bridal suite of Huntington and maybe Davids Bridal. Wishful thinking that maybe I'll find something on my first trip out

i'm also plus size! i went to david's bridal on a whim one day by myself and tried on a few dresses. it honestly was the worst service ever and nobody made me feel like the 'bride' the good thing was i got to try on all different styles and see what i liked.
then.....i went to lillette's in baldwin. i had pictures of the dresses that i liked and i was able to try pretty much all of them on. i ended up with a dress that i never would've picked by looking at it on the hanger, but it was perfect on me! they had larger sizes to try on and they know A LOT of tricks to get you into the smaller dresses. i tried on a size 10 dress and i'm a size 18! mind you, i couldn't tie the back, but i got the general idea!
sorry for the long post! def check out lillette's!

I have to second going to Lillette's.. they really made me feel great and I am going to look like a million bucks in my Maggie gown that I bought there- if you do go ask for Gerri (although everyone is wonderful there) she was an absolute doll to work with. I spent like 2 hrs there trying on diffrent gowns- most of the sample sizes were around a 10-18 but I got the idea of what I would look like- I'm a street size 24 btw... With David's Bridal I went to the one in Carle Place and really didn't spend too much time there.. nothing really that I had printed out was in the store and the gowns that I did try on I kept going back to the gown that I first tried on at Lillette's .. also the customer service leaves a bit to be desired there... I spent about 3 hrs there because it took like 30 min to get someone to just help me in the beginning.
I hope that you have lots of fun though- just be open minded on what you choose to try on and also if they suggest for you to try something on just do it - maybe it would be something that you don't like but it may look good on you.
