My wedding is 1 year from this March, but I'd like to get started looking at dresses somewhere around the 1 year mark. Is that okay or too early?
Also, is there a limit to how many people I should invite to go dress shopping? Do you typically look for bridesmaids dresses on the same day or designate a separate day for that?
Thanks!

Re: Dress Shopping... Timing and What to expect
I started looking at the one year mark and I'm still looking so I don't think it's to early, you don't really know how long it's going to take to find 'the one'. I would only bring people who you value their opinion, too many people can make it really confusing. I would also look for bridesmaids dresses on another day.

One year mark is a great time to start looking.
I'd say dress shop with whomever you feel comfortable with. I think only big stores like Kleinfelds MAY limit you on how many people you can invite if its at one of their trunk shows. They'll tell you if there is a limit when you make an appointment.
Don't go bridesmaid shopping until after you finalize your dress. So, a separate day for that. But you can always look around the store to get ideas after you try on a few dresses.

I would go different days for bridesmaid dresses. Your dress I believe comes first then you should look for bridesmaid dresses. Because your dress is the most important. I went 6 times before I picked my dress. Some designers take 6 months to 9 months as they told me. So I think the earlier the better! Bring people that are most important to you and that will be honest! My sister was that person. Good luck and have fun!

Different day. Take one or two ppl, like your mom and MOH. Too many people make it hard to decide...HTH

I started dress shopping around the 1 year mark. This way you get an idea and can shop around. If you find dresses you like/love I would limit the amt of shops you visit that way you dont get confused. I would suggest bringing only a few people to go dress shopping. Many salons cannot accomodate huge groups. I would keep it to 2-3 people. As for the BP dresses, definitely designate that for a different day. Do your homework online, then hit the stores. The BP dresses can wait since it only takes about 6-8 weeks to get them in depending on the store & designer. My salon for the BP dresses told me to order their dresses beginning of May and I'm getting married end of November. HTH!!

Re: Dress Shopping... Timing and What to expect
I started looking a little before the 1 year mark because I live out of state and it just happened to be the first time I was home after getting engaged so I could go with my mom. For me- the most important thing was going with my mom. I shopped alot and once or twice brought my MOH and an aunt with us. But other than that it was just my mom. I am a pretty headstrong person and knew right away for the most part what I did or didn't like and knew having a lot of people there with opinions would just get on my nerves. I'm really glad I did it this way and my mom even thanked me when I did find a dress for making it a 'just us' experience. I think starting early is a really good idea because you just never know when you'll come across that perfect dress and you want to enjoy the experience instead of stressing!

I think starting to shop around the 1 year mark is a good idea. It gives you time to look at varying stores and have plenty of time to order. You should purchase your dress first before you go BM shopping. This way you'll know what material/style BM dress will go with yours. BM dresses typically take 2-4 monts to come in. I only took my two BM's with me. I did not want a large crowd, b/c I knew too many opinions would overwhelm me.

I don't think it's too early. This way, you have plenty of time to shop around and really make the best decision for you.
While shopping I'd just concentrate on your dress first. It could be too overwhelming to also look for the girls dresses, that can happen another time.
After watching all those wedding shows and in my own experience, I think it's best just to take a couple people with you shopping. The first trip I just went with my fsil and the second time I took my mom and sister. Take the people who's opinions matter the most to you. If you have too many, there are too many opinions and you may get lost in the shuffle.
Have so much fun! I think this was the best part :)

Re: Dress Shopping... Timing and What to expect
I am getting married this December and I started dress shopping last March! I was too excited to wait!! I took my mom with me until I narrowed it down to 3 then I brought my MOH to help me make the final decision. I was there for about an hour each time. I didn't want to be any more overwhelmed than I already was so I kept it small. Once I bought my dress and it came me, my mom, sister, daughter and mil went to see it. As far as the bridesmaids dresses I brought the pictures with me from my online searching browsed at them the day my sister was with me but we went back another day for her to try them on and order it.
Best of luck dress shopping

I started looking about a year before. Also don't bring too many people because everyone will have their own opinion and you may not want to hear what everyone says. Just go with what you fall in love with not based on what others say!! Also BM's dresses we did another day. HTH!
