So my entire bridal party except 1 BM lives out of NY. I am considering going dress shopping alone, at least for the 1st time.
I know, I may want opinions or just someone to show them to, but I can only think of 1 local friend whose opinion wouldn't make me mad. lol
Would you go alone? Do you think it's a mistake to go alone?

Re: Dress Shopping - your thoughts?
In my opinion, it is definitely NOT a mistake to go alone ,especially the first time. My first time I only brought one of my BM, because she is very laid back and easy going.
It proved to be the right decision because I found the first time very overwhelming and any more people, I think I would have cried. I brought my mom and my grandmother after I found the one.

i've been considering going alone the first time too. Just b/c I am soo used to going shopping alone all the time. I don't like to go shopping in a group. Thats like my 'Me' time. But for wedding dresses I say I would like someone to go with me the first time. Just so I can have an opinion. I am going with my mom and MOH the first time. Just so I can get an idea of what looks nice on me.

I'd suggest the 1st time just taking the 1 friend you mentioned, who is easy going. I think once you get dresses on, you'll want the opinion of at least someone you know.

I went by myself for every dress store I went to. I felt bad at first, but no one's schedule was ever free. Honestly I'm glad that I didn't have any one's opinion to sway me into something I might not like. When I knew I just did regardless of who was there.

go with someone who is honest and supportive.. i went with my mom and sister and it was easier for them to help me weed the no's out.

I may have to go alone. I live in MD and everyone in my family and also my bridemaids live on Long Island or upstate NY. I can't really think of any friends around here I would take. The only way I wouldn't go alone at first is if my Mom could fly in for the weekend, which I'm hoping she may be able to do.

This is what I did, all my family lives i Minnesota. My mom was planning on coming here for a visit so that is when I tried on dresses. I still haven't said YES to the dress but I am almost certain of the one I want. I can still go try on but at least I know I got to have the special moment trying on dresses with my mom

Re: Dress Shopping - your thoughts?
sadly, I dont think my Mom will have a typical 'special moment' if she came for my dress shopping trip. She is very critical of me being overweight (altho she herself is heavy and had Gastric Bypass surgery last year... but I digress) and does not think I should show my arms.
She turned down pages in all of my Bridal Magazines during her last visit to my apartment, and all the pics she liked were with sleeves.
Sleeves in JULY!??? No. I told her I am ok with my arms, so if anyone else is not, then that is their issue.
