Do you ladies think Jan is to early to start looking for a dress for my jan 2011 wedding? I ahve no idea what style I want only the designer. I'm pretty stuck on getting a Maggie Sotoro dress.

I dont think its ever too early! My dress was order in Aug 1. 2008 for my February 2010 wedding!!!

I don't think that's too early, it'll be a year out. Some dresses even take 8-10 months to come in, depending on the store and designer. I've heard Maggie's take long too. I started my dress shopping casually in July 08, more serious in August 08, and purchased the first week of September 08 for my December 09 wedding, so I had my dress even before the year mark. I think it's fine.

I started in May 2009 and didn't order until July 2009. My dress won't be in until March, at the earliest. I think there is no harm in starting to look, but keep in mind that newer styles might come out before your wedding date.

Not early. Some dresses especially Maggie sottero dress might take up to 10 months to come in.

i think thats a perfect time to start shopping, like some girls said it takes about 8-10months for the dress to come in anyway.

I was thinking the same thing. I have been loosing that terrible weight you gain when you have a baby and i hope to get to my pre-baby weight for the wedding. I would also be horrified if I ordered my dress then saw a newer line and fee in love with something. So i guess i will start the search in Jan and only order if i totally fall in love with the dress and have to hesitations

There is no set date for when you need a dress but typically 3-8 months before the wedding is a good time to have the dress already picked out. Some boutiques take months to order the gown, and others are much sooner (ie Davids Bridal, typically 1 1/2 months).
The risk is that if you get the dress too early, you may be tempted to change your mind. I think its best to just shop around and take your sweet time. About a year before the wedding, thats when you should kick it into high gear and paring down your selections, and also it will be good since your weight may be closer to what you will weigh (+/- 10 lbs) on the wedding day.

its never too early to start looking.. I wondered into a dress store TWO DAYS after being engaged. it was by accident, but I did it. lol
unfortunately, I've been to a bunch of stores and never got that 'feeling', even when i tried on my dream dress...

I started looking/trying on dresses about 2 months ago and my wedding is May 2011. It's never too early to start looking for a dress. I do have a lot more that I would like to try on but I am not going to make a final decision/order until I am about a year out.

It's never too early. I started looking in Dec and we ordered the dresses two weeks ago. I wanted to look early so that I could get an idea of what I wanted and the prices so that I could give my girls a heads up.

hey girl! I already ordered mine for jan 2011. They told me 8-10 months to come in. So i'm expecting it to arrive this january actually. Granted my decision was easy and i dont think i will regret it. I just need to stay away from looking at other dresses b/c i'll drive myself crazy.
