I went to 4 dress shops over the weekend... just a quick blurb about each - in case anyone was looking to go to the places I went to.
Paradise Bridal in Patchogue They were patient and I got to browse around myself and they didn't limit the time I spent or the number of dresses I tried on. HOWEVER, they don't tell you the name of any of the dress designers. They also had a large selection of dresses in different size ranges too.
Village Bridal in Babylon Very patient, fairly large selection of dresses. I was able to walk around and pick out dresses on my own. The consultant also helped pick out some dresses too based on what I was looking for.
Bridal Suite of Huntington It's changed a lot since I last went there (maybe 3 years ago). They have about 1/2 the selection of dresses that I remember they used to. This is another salon where they don't tell you who the designer is.
Angel Bridal in Islip The ladies were super nice but I walked right in and back out because they only carry 1 designer there that doesn't make the style of dresses that I was looking for.

Re: Dress Shops - Mini Reviews
I got my dress, my BM dresses, and MOB dress from Paradise. So far, they have been excellent. They're easy and fun to work with and always helpful and quick to return calls. Even when I found a dress elsewhere, they were willing to order it and match the price. BM dresses just came in but I'm still waiting for my gown. Not knowing the designer wasn't so bad, they told me as soon as I ordered it but I still couldn't find the dress online!
