Dress Size Conversions

Dress Size Conversions

I'm thinking about ordering my dress online, and knowing me I'll probably measure myself wrong.
I'm about a size 10 in most clothes...what does this typically convert to in wedding gowns?

I know it can really vary, but I want to make sure I'm on the right track. Can you ladies provide some examples and the designers you used?

www.thebridalshop.com carries all my favorite designers, so I'll probably go with them.

Well when I went to try on some dresses they were size 10 and normally i wear a size 8. I think it also varies by designer. Some run small or some run a little bigger. When you go to order your gown they will measure you to get the right measurements.

I would suggest ordering thru gownfind (phylis) because they can measure you for the dress. I ended up doing the same with my bridesmaid dresses. They all needed to get measured on their own if I was ordering online, but with Phyliss we are all going tonight to get everyone measured.

The other option is to go to a seamstress (perhaps the person who will be doing your alterations and have them measure you. Every company is different. I wear a street size 8 and tried on dresses that were size 12 and 14 that wouldn't zip. On the other hand the dress I finally ordered was a 10) don't guess it get measured)

I think you go 1 or 2 sizes higher.

I'm a size 4 and a wedding dress 8.

It depends on the dress or the designer, I usually wear dresses in a size 4 and my wedding dress is a 10 and needed minimal alterations (other than a hem).

Definitely make sure someone else measures you for an accurate measurement.

RK Bridal has designers size charts on their website you can get an idea what size you should order based on your measurements.

Def. get measured by someone. I wear a size 8-10 in jeans but b/c I'm bigger on top we ended up ordering a 14W for my dress. It really all depends on the designer and all of your measurements.

Agreed..get measured. Also online there should be a size chart. Match your largest measurement up to the size.

I was a 14 in regular clothes and took a 20!

Are you ordering the dress without trying it on? I think you should try it on! I suggest getting measured by a seamstress and then using your measurements to match up tp the sizing chart. You can even print the chart and bring it with you to the seamstress to get her professional opinion!
