dress sizes question

dress sizes question

How do wedding dress sizes run? I find that other dresses really small but I have yet to try on a wedding gown. I am going next weekend and I am a little nervous! Recently for a BM dress for my friend's wedding I had to buy two sizes bigger than my normal jeans/pants size! This might be depressing - but at least i have a year to shrink myself

Re: dress sizes question

As a very general rule, many BM dress and wedding dress designers make their dresses about 2 sizes smaller than your regular street clothes size - they tend to use a different set of measurement guidelines.

So don't be disappointed!!!! It happens!

There are some designers that run 'true to regular size' but it really doesn't matter because no one will see the size of the dress - it's just a number so don't worry about that

They run small as well, from all the dresses I've tried on, unfortunately - my dress is 2 sizes bigger then a dress I'd normally buy at the store!

But, you can't let that get to you, it's only a #. don't compare it to what you normally wear, cause you're measurements are the same! It's just a different scale of sizing.

Re: dress sizes question

yea two sizes larger then what you typically wear unless the wedding dress maker is a larger cut which there are some dresses like that then its like one size off.

i ran into someone who was a size 14 and ordering a size 10 dress because she refused to order an 18. I was like ***??? are you that fixed on a damn number. She is bigger then me and that means she is no 14 but more like a 16. She claims she is dropping weight by the time the dress comes in which is four months away and i am sorry to go from a '14' to a 10 is no easy task.

Order what the lady tells you to order - by your measurements and also if she says your in between sizes go for teh larger they can always take it in and only can take it out so much.

Me too. I really think it depends on the designer. My attendant also told me that a lot of stores bump up the sizes so girls have to pay more for a 'plus' size dress. My best friend is normally a size 8 and she had to pay an extra $100 to get a 'plus' size dress. ***?

Re: dress sizes question

I bought an Alfred Angelo wedding dress. The sales woman measured me and the size that she said I needed is 1 dress size smaller than what I wear in 'street clothes'. I was very surprised. (I know she is correct because they had the dress in my 'street clothes' size and it was big!)

I just ordered my dress yesterday, and it was 3 sizes bigger than I normally wear. I fit into the dress that was only 2 sizes bigger, but it was a bit snug. No one is going to see the # but you, so don't sweat it too much. I mentally prepared myself for the bigger #, and was surprisingly OK with it. And if it does end up being a bit too big, it's always easier for them to take the dress in.

I'm so going to try on a AA dress. I hate the size issue.

The wedding dress I ordered ran true to size---I ordered a Reem.

It's just a number !

Most dresses will run about one to two sizes larger than your usual dress size.
The dress should be ordered to fit your largest measurement, whether it be hips, tummy or bust.

They run small. I ordered one size bigger than what I wear in street clothes.

My dress is 6 sizes bigger than I am. It doesn't bother me, I know what my true size is.

Yes they run at least 2 sizes smaller and more for some designers. I am normally between a size 4 (even a 2 at times) or 6 petitte in dresses and my MOG dress is a 12!! I was like WHAT, but the salesperson reassured me that it was the designer's sizing and not me.
Go shopping with a clear head and don't pay attention to the 'number' they order you just as long as it fits you and looks stunning.

It's just a number, try not to get so hung up about it. Of course you feel horrible when you see what size it is, but you have to remember, it's not really that size.

My dress is 2 sizes bigger than what I normally wear as well, but when I put on a different dress in that size to make sure, it fit- so they know what they are doing (most of the time).

But, my MOH is also getting Alfred Angelo (the separates) and she has to order a size larger than her 'street clothes' size.
