Okay, I have been really stressing out about my dress lately. Here is the deal...they need to shorten my dress length by seperating the skirt from the bodice because there is a lot of detail on the bottom (this should have been a hollow-to-hem deal, but I got my dress off the rack). I am a little nervous about this...okay I am VERY nervous about this. I was talking to my mom and my MOH and they suggested that I go get the length taken care of sooner rather then later since the dress fits me perfectly otherwise and I am not growing anymore so my mind will be at ease. I know a lot of people are going to think I am nuts for doing this early, but given the situation, I am thinking this may be a good idea. Has anyone had a dress...maybe one that's been handed down to you that needed such a drastic alteration and I am just a nervous wreck for no reason. I really did not realize the whole hollow to hem thing was going to be an issue until months after when I went w/ my MOH to order her bridal gown...so please don't think I am a total nut-job. Hind site being 20-20 I would have just spent the extra money and done things the right way, but now it's too late.

Re: Dress stress
I forget who it was but someone recently (an 06er) had their salon mess up & they had to have renovations to the skirt b/c it wasn't ordered as hollow to hem....I don't think she had it done yet but I'm sure you can talk to her & have her calm you. I wish I remember who it was.

So then it's a good idea to get this done early? If you remember who this was, please let me know.

Re: Dress stress
I actually broke down and tried the dress on w/ my shoes...I actually was shocked to see that the dress is not as long as I thought...and this was without my poofy slip. I am wondering if the slip will make up the inches (I mean literally and inch or 2) it needs. Wouldn't that be funny if I do not need alterations on this dress afterall!

I would definitely try it w/ the slip, esp. if it is very poufy...and then along w/ your shoes, it just may work out. I wish you luck!

Re: Dress stress
Pray for me...
I would rather it work out that the dress is not tampered w/ at all! Anyone know how much in the way of inches a full ballgown slip takes off of the length?

Re: Dress stress
I had the hollow to hem problem. Phyllis at Gownfind is now doing the alterations, and she has to raise the skirt from the waist because of all the detailing on the bottom of my dress. From what she told me this is done all the time!! I will let you know how it comes out when I go for my first fitting on the 11th.
BTW I paid $150 for the hollow to hem to be done by the designer or the salon, and only the front was shortened, not the front and sides, which is what was supposed to be done. The sides are still 3' too long, and that was even WITH the poofiest slip Phyllis had.
I would try the gown with the slip. It made the difference for me from the front being dragged on the floor to being the perfect length!

Definietly will! I am so sorry they did that to your dress! Let me know how it turns out. It's reassuring that people do get this done.

Re: Dress stress
my dress had to be done cut from the middle also -lots of detail on the bottom (my dress was supposed to be hollow to hem but wasn't) anyway i started my fittings ealie then expected to take care of the problem
it should take 2 fittings before they cut the material - one fitting pinning, the second fitting the fabric is sewn to top with extra fabric still remaining - then they cut the extra fabric
i had the bottom done early then the sides taken in at the end because i lost some weight

How early did you start your fittings to take care of this?
