Dress too short

Dress too short

So, I got my dress last week- I ordered it from a salon out of state. I try it on and it stops just at my feet- when I'm barefoot! It turns out when I tried the dress on at the salon, some of the pick-ups had fallen on the sample and it appeared much longer than it actually is.
Now, I'm very tall so I don't mind wearing a small heal or even flats- but even if I did that you would see the entire shoe.

So, I contact the designer directly to ask them for tips that I can give to the seamstress to have them lengthen the dress. They were very nice and offered to lengthen the dress for $100. The only problem is that they are in California so I would have to ship the dress (and insure it) and then wait for it to be returned.
He said as an alternative, they could send me the fabric to have the seamstress do it herself.

So, what do you think I should do- send it to the designer and have it done perfect or have the seamstress do it along with the other alterations and save time and money!

Here's a pic of the dress:

If you pick out a good sseamstress she should be able to lenghten it, I would rather them send me the fabric instead of shipping the dress out.

BTW the dress is beautiful

I would have to agree. It would make me nervous to ship it out, even if it is insured. Good luck. Beautiful dress!

I would send it back to the designer...I Think a seamstress will charge you more then $100 to fix it..And you know there's no chance of the designer messing it up!! Sorry this happened to you good Luck Oh and your dress is soooooo Beautiful

I love your dress.

If it were me, I would pay to send it back to the designer. I don't know much about this kind of thing, but that would make me feel most comfortable that I was going to get back exactly what I asked for.

I agree with the others, a good seamstress would definitely be able to do this - find one who is also a dressmaker, you will have no problems.

The hem line is pretty complicated- it's a lot of gatherings and puffs out- so it might be difficult for a seamstress to do. Maybe I should meet with a seamstress first to see if they can do it and then decide?

I just want it to be perfect- not have a hemline totally different from the rest of the dress- the hem is a big part of the dresses design.

ugh, hate this...

I would definitely send it back, insured, certified and return receipt requested

I agree. This is a tricky situation and I would want the designer to do it directly.

It's really about what makes you feel more comfortable. Either way a good seamstress or the designer is going to do a good job and you're not going to have a problem. Would you feel more comfortable sending it back to them or keeping the dress in your possession and having them send you fabric.

In regards to cost. By the time you insure, send it to the designer and pay them it most likely will cost the same as what a good seamstress will charge, so I think that should null that part of your decision. Like I said, do what makes you comfortable.

this is true and if you think about it, I'll have to pay for the fabric and shipping of it and then pay the seamstress to actual create the bottom.

do you know how much it weighs?

go to usps.com and find out how much it would cost to ship and insure.

I agree. Even though a good seamstress should be able to do it, they probably would charge more than $100. And I'd have piece of mind that the designers themselves were working on it. Good luck...sorry you are going through this!

Just check USPS website and for a shipment of 5 lbs- dress is very light- the total with isurance would be less than $50. Not as bad as I thought at all- I think I'm just going to ship it.

Thanks so much ladies- you've been alot of help and made me feel better. I'll let you know how it turns out.
