I'm utterly confused on how to word our preferences for what people wear to our wedding...
It's at 6:00 at the Fox Hollow - but we want it to be pretty casual honestly... The BP men are wearing Blues Brothers' suits - complete with hats & sunglasses. We want everyone to understand that tuxes are NOT wanted, ball gowns not necessary.
We were thinking of saying business casual - but to some people that's jeans and a nice shirt...
What do you think we should do????? I'm at such a loss!

Re: Dress Wording??
i just wouldnt write anything on the invites..most of the weddings ive been to didnt have dress on the invite..and girls typically showed up wearing tee length dress, and guys had a suit on

Re: Dress Wording??
We were thinking semi-formal - but to us - the fact that it's at night would make people seem to lean more towards formal....
I like the idea of putting nothing....and letting word of mouth handle it i guess..

you usually dont have to write anything if you want it casual like that..people dont usually show up to weddings in tuxes and ballgowns unless its asked for.

Re: Dress Wording??
i wouldnt worry to much about it. i haven't seen anyone but the groom and GMs in a tux at a wedding i've been to yet, unless it's asked for. I'd just let word of mouth take care of it , and i'd def. be careful about putting casual on the invites cause people may take that to mean jeans or whatever they feel like wearing. I think most people just get a nice suit and a pretty dress unless they are told that it's black tie

Re: Dress Wording??
I think my main concern in not saying anything is that because it's a night wedding, people will assume it's formal - or am I thinking in some old timey way???

either write nothing or you can write semiformal which would be what most people wear to a sweet sixteen or a christening.

there's a differance between formal and black tie. the time of day doesnt change the formality in that respect. most people will not wear tuxes unless they are told to do so, same with ball gowns.
i wouldnt worry too much, usually the problem is getting people to dress UP enough not down.
