Driving directions for Invites

Ok... I did my mapfor the directions insert but now i need driving directions in text form. I am getting married at Fox Hollow and the direction cards they have are so not driver friendly for those that do not live in LI or even Queens. I have A LOT of people coming from the Bronx, Brooklyn and upstate and even Jersey and i'm basically looking for some broader directions. Just an example...have you ever gotten directions that say

From Upstate New York...

From Brooklyn/Staten Island...

From Manhattan...

From Bronx...

I just want to give some insight of how you would even begin to get to the Northern/Sourthern State pkwy or LIE.

Does ANY of this make sense to anyone? If I can find what i'm speaking about i'll tyr to post it.

Re: Driving directions for Invites

have you looked up the directions on mapquest, that might be best

I live in queens and to get to the northern state, what i do is get onto the grand central which is right by me and stay on that until it turns into the northern state. To get to the southern state i get on the van wyck then take the exit for southern state. For LIE i get on the grand central and take the exit for LIE. Even if you live in queens, theres different ways to go depending what highway the person is closest to. Usually theres just 1 way to go, so what you do is pick the highway closest to your RH so this way ppl dont have to drive far when they get off

Re: Driving directions for Invites

I was going to try mapquest but i don't really want turn by turn directions, I want directions tht will say if you're coming from the Bronx take the Throggsneck Bridge, Whitestone or Triboro Bridge...

Or if your coming from Brooklyn take the Belt pkwy...

See the problem is the guests that live outside of Queens and maybe Brooklyn, would not even know which way they're headed if i just state 'take Northern State Pkwy to exit...' How would they GET to the Northern State Pkwy is my question. That's the kind of directions i'm looking for.

Maybe i'll just tweak what mapquest comes up with to customize the way i need it. I just thought there may be an easier way.

well when you see directions posted anywhere it is broken up into categories

if youre coming from queens, and if so it doesnt say take the northern state bc there is no northern state by us. What i meant by use the highway closest to the rh i meant as the ending point. So lets say the northern state is closest then what you do is say take the grand central to the northern state. So yes you do say a highway that is in the borough of where ppl are traveling from. If the southern state was closest to your rh then you would tell them to take the van wyck to the southern state.

i agree with the above post, why dont you get the directions that your RH uses. And for the part where they get off the highway thats when they need step by step instructions. Mapquest you can just follow part of it. See what major things they have to do, you can do step by step for the beginning parts bc there is no one starting point. So you start at where the highway part starts on and narrow it down to what needs to be known

oh did you just want to say 'queens-take the grand central' and thats it hahaha. Yeah you cant do just that. I will know how to get on the grand central but i also need to be told what exit to get off and then even more important i really need step by step instructions for once i get off the exit. Just about everybody will need this. You have to say for example ' make a left at the first light, drive 3 miles to williams street and make a right, continue to lewis boulevard and make a left, RH will be on your right hand side. The beginning parts theres alot less to say but otherwise youre going to have alot of lost guests. Some are very good with directions but if they are not clear then ppl will drive around in circles. I once got directions that were horrible and got so lost, for about an hour but thats bc they were wrong. Everybody else had the same problem but they had a gps to tell them the right way and most said they still got lost even with the gps bc of how bad the directions were.

BUT to save yourself the trouble, honestly just copy the exact directions fox hollow gives out, its the easiest way. Most use the RH's directions in invites and im sure it works out for them.

Re: Driving directions for Invites

it doesn't matter where they are coming from.

all have to get to the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway North (whether coming from LIE, NS, or SS) and then head East on Jericho Tpke it will be on your left hand side.

It is exit 14E off the seaford oyster bay (135) Expressway.

So not to confuse anyone.

From LIE, NS or SS

Take Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway North to Jericho Tpke East (Exit 14E) Fox Hollow will be on left hand side.

It is very simple to get there.
