Drunkety drunk FH...

Hmm, ok girls, any advice on how I can approach FH about not getting s*itfaced on our big day? At these kinds of events he tends to 'overindulge' and it scurrs me a little. What kinds of agreements have you all made with your FH?

sweetly tell him how much you're looking forward to the big day and how you want to be sure you both enjoy it because everyone always says how it goes so fast etc... 'oh and by the way, let's be sure not to overdo it because i want you awake and sober for our wedding night'!!!

I've never seen my FH drunk but he keeps saying he wants to get drunk at the wedding. I sweetly remind him that I'm not paying all this money for him to not remember what happened. Plus, men can't really perform their husbandly duties once they're trashed so that should be motivation enough if he wants to enjoy his wedding night!
Good luck!!

well i suggested that he only drinks a few beers but after we say our thank yous and stuff ( like half way through the reception ) he is welcome to get bombed if he would like!! i cant really 'tell' him anything he would KILL me LOL but i drop hints!

i dont know if he will listen - he was the BM at his brother's wedding and they were SWAYING into eachother at his wedding!!! you could also tell in the pictures which he noticed - so since he is the one shelling out cash for the pictures this time he wont want to be glassy eyed!

good luck with that!

Mine wants to get drunk too because he's a bit shy and doesnt like to be the center of attention. A few drinks is fine but not too much because I want to remember the day.

easy - use these simple words:

Honey, I love you, but if you get drunk at our wedding, you're going to be sleeping on the couch on our wedding night.

Works like a charm

Of course, if such a blunt approach doesn't work for you, you can always try this one:

Gee sweetie, I'd hate for you to be too trashed to 'perform' on our wedding night... because I'm really looking forward to those first few... ahem... moments... as husband and wife...

I'm having the same problem... people have been telling me not to worry about it because there really isn't a whole lot of time to get wasted at your own wedding because you're doing so much meeting and greeting... I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one because if my FH gets trashed, he'll be in bed the next day until 5PM! I've seen it happen.
Good luck!

I initially was a flat out I do not want you drunk...and I think I've moved onto two beers and one shot before the ceremony...as for the reception....I agree with the above

I feel your pain. My FH tries to change his name when he's drunk. Not a good thing when I'll be Mrs. Felice A. and he'll be telling me no, its Mrs. Phil A. So I kindly asked him not to get drunkity drunk drunk at the wedding. A couple drinks is fine.

I can't help you. My wedding ends at 5 so I plan to be on my way by then. I am limiting myself to just beer (Corona) and only 2-3 shots. This way i'm not hammered and I can be on my way at the after party!

Both FH and I decided to just toast with the champagne and that was it, so we could remember as much as possible about our big day! I'll be drinking lots of water to stay hydrated!

Re: Drunkety drunk FH...

My FH likes to do many shots when he is out with his brothers and friends, so I was definitely worried about this as well. Although he is a big guy and it takes a lot for him to get drunk, I was worried about him drinking too much and being sloppy (although I have never seen him like that, I was just worried that since he hates attention he would get drunk to feel better). I know he is going to have a beer or two before the wedding (I was not too happy about that when I first heard about it, but that is what his brothers do and I am fine with it now), but I am 100% positive it will be casual drinks, nothing to get wasted. I asked him not to get drunk at the wedding, and we both agreed that he or I wouldn't. We will probably toast in the bridal suite with our bridal party, have 1 or 2 drinks in the suite before the reception, toast at the reception, and the maybe 1 or 2 more drinks in the reception (definitely 1 shot together with our friends and family). We will be so busy dancing, saying hello to everyone, and eating, that I don't even know if we will drink that much.

I think that you and FH should talk about it before the big day. You both should say how you feel and come up with an agreement. Good Luck!

I have a very similar problem... I told him flat out if he wants to drink at our wedding, he'll be doing nothing but signing annulment papers in the hotel room that night. I'm not playing around with him on this issue. I don't care about any other night but he is not getting drunk at the wedding. As much as it is a party, it's not a night of partying for him. We need to consumate right?
