My FH and I are at odds about Duet. I adore them. We loved Eric (met with him in GORGEOUS new NYC office last week) and their work is clearly amazing for the price. I want to book.
FH loved the pics but did not like the Video presentation. (It took me a month to convince him that we were 'allowed' to have a photojournalistic style of pics...he has a hard time with anything remotely modern.) He is very traditional and thought the style of all of the videos were very 'MTV'/GenX (Granted, he is 7 years older than me, but he's not quite an old man.) He wants just a simple/classic portrayal of the day, with the cameras catching little moments we would have missed otherwise...(sort of reality TV-ish, i think) Not lots of music over fast edits and camera zooming in and out. (I must admit, what he showed us was quite high pace.)
My argument: Eric made it clear that we chose the music for the video, and that what he was showing us as samples in the studio were the sort of 'trailer' to the actual wedding DVD's. The whole thing is not shot and edited like that. Right?
My opinion: I think we can work with Eric and share our vision for the video. A man with that sort of talent and grace is capable of molding something to our liking. FH argues that his style is very modern and he is clearly talented, but not the guy for us.
Question: Everyone raves about Duet pics. HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR VIDEO??
I would love some honest answers...FM me if you like.

Hmmmm..... this is a tough one. Well, you can do one of two things. You can talk to Eric and tell him EXACLTY what you want. Eric seems really cool and flexible to work with. But if your FI is adamant about not using Duet for video, then shop around. You FI will see how much more $$ it is to go elsewhere, or he might realize how much he likes Erics work. Either way, I wish you the best of luck.

It sounds like your FH husband feels he hasn't gotten exactly what he is looking for. Granted, it sounds like Eric is a great photographer and wants to accomodate your every need but perhaps your FH is looking for something else that he hasn't seen yet. My suggestion would be to go and see other photographers/videographers look at their work and then compare all of the styles and the work you had seen. I think then you and FH would be able to decide the photographer that is right for both of you. Good Luck !!!
ETA>>I'm not a Duet Bride but I thought I'd post my opinion. I haven't decided on a photographer/videographer yet.

Thanks ladies! I agree more shopping around needs to be done. Question: All three of Duets packages come with a videographer. Anyone NOT use them for video??

We're using Duet for our photo and video and I had a simlar feel to your FH about the video graphics. I spoke with Eric and we're not going to do any special effect screen changes. I wantto keep it photojournalistic/documentary style. I may let them do a dance sequence with a little more graphics, but I don't want anything like that for the ceremony, entrance or special dances. I have a feeling I'm going to be a real pain to them when it's time for editing, but that's what I'm paying for. It will be our wedding video forever and I want it to be just how we want it.

Check the OFFICIAL DUET PHOTOGRAPHY THREAD, I think there were some photo-only people. I'm not sure how much it costs if you break up the package. I suggest talking to Eric about what you want from your video and seeing if he can do it. He might also have some tapes that show what you want. If not, maybe you do need to do more shopping.

We used Duet & love our video. It is not ALL like the samples. In the beginning he did a 'music video' using our first song w/ scenes from DH & I getting ready, going to hall, & seeing each other for the 1st time(this happens to be my favorite part of the video & it always makes me cry). Then there is a second song (from our cd favor) that they used for a video w/ formal shots & interviews w/ our parents & BP. Then they did our ceremony & reception in a very traditional style(they do do editing to make things flow, but everything came out perfect). I am sure Eric will work w/ you to make whatever you want!

i posted about a duet video question before...what fh and i did was to go back to duet and see the video again...we spoke to eric about the style of video they showed us and fh expressed some concern about some of the special effects...eric was taking extensive notes on what we liked and did not like in the videos we saw and he will make sure that only what we like goes on the video...besides, don't you get to approve the video before it becomes the final one?

I didn't approve my video, but I never thought to ask. Duet's demo made me cry(I booked in 2/03, so I do not know if he showing the same one) & loved it so much, I knew I would be happy w/ Eric's work.

Thanks ladies, I am going to talk to Eric, but this really set my mind at ease. He seems so eager to please, and he is so talented, I cannot image it not coming out how we want! BTW, Jamespokey- we are both using Duet on the same date! I know they have two, if not more teams. We will be duetting at the same time on June 11th, 2005! What time is your wedding?

I just booked duet for photos yesterday. I am not using their video. I had already gotten mine through absolute entertainment. I love the video they have if you call absolute ask for Rob, maybe you and your FHcould go see their video.
