Hi girls, I have not really added much input to this site but have def been following the chats and have booked several vendors that girls have recommended. Thanks sooo much!!! This site was really a lifesaver. One of the vendors I booked was Duet -Nick. Today was our engagement shoot in Central Park and our first meeting with him. We have been engaged for oer 3 years and getting married May 28, so I didn't understand the purpose of it but my FH was all about it. Anyway...I left the shoot a bit upset. Nick was pleasant enough but he didn't make me relax or feel at ease (I am naturally very neurotic about things so it is probably is more me). It was kind of a weird dynamic just taking pictures in a very packed Central Park with people watching. It all kind of happened very fast and I just didn't feel happy or satified when I left ecause I didn't think he got shots that I would have liked. In the beginning I told him I wanted very candid, photojournalistic style pictures and he said tht was his specialty. I felt that every picture was posed to look natural which I think defeats the purpose. Example, look to my left and have your FH kiss your cheek, or look in his eyes. Obviously there should be some thrown in the mix but I felt we were doing the same thing in different areas around the park. I told him I wanted spontaneous and he asked me to jump and have my FH pick me up but I didn't like that. He did ask me what exactly I wanted but it is kind of hard to describe. I wanted more pictures of us laughing or just walking more of the shots when we werent posing just being ourselves (the little moments). Obviously, I have not seen the pictures so I can't comment on the qulity of his work and I know I may be jumping to conclusions but I thought it would be a completely different experience. Now I am freaking out for the wedding pictures. I am making my FH crzy and am in a bad mood. My FH told me to make a detailed list of the pictures I want but I feel I have to show him pictures I like rather than tell him, or he should kind of give us the ideas and let us go with the flow. I also dont want to show up the day of my wedding with a stack of pictures. I know he has great reviews, but I don't think we have the same vision. I hope I am wrong and am blown away when I see the engagement pictures. Any suggestions???

Re: Duet Nick----Feedback please!!! Going crazy
Hmmm. Maybe he took more than you realized that were very candid? Maybe not.. But what im saying is stay in the day and wait until you see the photos. Plenty of girls on here swear by them. My FH was in his sisters wedding last year and hated them for exactly what you mentioned and a few other things.
What you can do is be proactive about what you do like. Maybe pop into the office and go through their books. take pics of the photos in the albums that you like and maybe make your own mini scrap book for the photog to reference. IDK, that may be a pain... Maybe you're getting nervous and just want to have a bit more control over things...
Well, my FSIL pics with them came out amazing. So, thats why I say wait until you see what he actually took and then take it from there. Even though FH felt similar to how you felt while taking them, they came out great.
hope I helped somewhat.

I wouldn't worry too much!! You've never done something like that before, and it can be very unnatural feeling, and a lot of times it feels like no good pictures are being taken.
I'd wait to see your photos so you know what you're dealing with, and then either way set up a meeting at Duet with Nick to go over what you're looking for for your wedding day. They let you meet with the photographers on Tues - Thursdays.
You'll be fine!

Re: Duet Nick----Feedback please!!! Going crazy
Hi lady :)
I'm here to help ease your fears (I hope!)
I had my engagement pictures with Tim from Duet back in the Fall. I had the same conversation when we got to DUMBO....saying I really didn't want cheesy pictures and I wanted him to capture the natural moments....and he said he got it.
Anyhoo -- he asked us to 'touch noses' for the very first picture ... and then asked us to hold hands and look at each other. Needless to say, I started huffing and puffing to my fiance about how much I hated cheesy pictures and didn't want them - I even stomped my foot at one point -- which I never do (LOL).
I spoke with Tim again and said I really wanted it to be a different vibe and he totally got it and said 'we have to do a few cheesy ones so people will believe you love each other ;)' but also started thinking outside the box. It was a bit awkward at times (just because I was nervous) .... and I had no clue what to think when I left.
He told me he was concerned that I be happy -- and wanted to give me 70 proofs instead of the standard 50 so I could pick from a bunch of options.
I really appreciated that offer and was even more pleasantly surprised when I received my proofs and had 90!! In addition to that, he offered to meet with me to go over every picture to talk about what I liked and which ones I didnt like.
Would you believe I couldnt find ONE that I didn't like? I was THRILLED with the outcome and my facebook notifications went NUTS once I posted my album. (Take a look -- I posted them in my profile here as well!)
Eitherway -- we have since met again and I actually ended up apologizing for giving him such a hard time at the engagement shoot, because he obviously was taking shots I didn't even realize he was taking, etc. He actually said he didn't mind at all and likes when brides know what they want. He ended up saying it was fun to think outside the box and it gave him some new shots for his portfolio.
I'm getting married next month and I know for sure he'll take amazing pics and I'm sure Nick will too! <3
Definitely plan a meeting with him and talk it out -- say what you want and what you dont -- then give him a list of must takes. Don't feel guilty even if it's a stack!
good luck with everything and let me know if you have any other questions!

Re: Duet Nick----Feedback please!!! Going crazy
i think taking e-pictures is weird regardless and to be honest even the photojournalistic pics are a little posed....you cant have him following you for 2hrs hoping to get some nice moments...that was also up to you two to do. Its hard to relax in that setting so I understand, i bet the pics are beautiful...when do you see them?

Def dont go crazy just yet Im sure it was awkward b/c it was your first time meeting, plus he probably got many of the shots you wanted w/o you realizing it! I cant speak from experience b/c we arent booked w/ Duet but i have heard all gr8 things about them. i agree 100% that you need to provide a detailed list of your must take shots this way you are communicating what you want and you wont be disappointed w/ your final pics! good luck, keep us updated!

Hi girls!! Soooo..... I got the pics and he really got a lot of wonderful pictures. The ones that were more candid didn't come out exactly what I had pictured for alot of them but they were still great. Although I felt very posed during the session, it looked very natural in the pictures. HE really did an amazing job and I am very excitedfor my wedding.Thank you girls so much for calming me down. I really tend to worry until the issue gets resolved and your feedback def calmed me down. My FH parents loved them also and my FH told me they couldn't get over how taleted Nick is. I have been meaning to call Duet and pass along a thank you to Nick since I was pouting at the session!!!
