hey girls- everything i read says that along with taking care of the baby and working, and being 'active' in your relationship w. hubby//..that u need to take time for yourself.
I have also seen that guys ha ve no problem with doing this for themselves...taking time off for themselves, whether it is to go golfing, fishing, computer time, motorcyles, wahtever hobby they want
it is us woman that have a hard time carving out time for themselves
which brings me to my dumb question i've been getting my nails wrapped since our wedding day=- 3 years. when i had Julianne ai figured there is no time to do that any more and I was going to stop doing it. until I finally got the time to go to nail place..and then I caved and got them done. Here she is almost 7 months old..and I have i busted nail and just broke another one wworking in the yard...so here is your TOUGH question of the day: do I cave and have them repaired...or do i get them all soaked and take the wraps off...cut them down and go natural?? getting my nails done every 2 weeks costs about $25 and gets me out of the house on my own forf about 1-1/2 hours. not getting them done means I dont have to worry about when I have to get an appt and get them done...I can polish them myself whenever the mood and time strike.
i can still treat myself to plain manicures and a pedicure every once in a while...
or am I fooling myself and I am simply going to not be able to make time for momma?
dumb question- but will need to know as I will have to decide by tomorrow. I cannot show up with 2 denailed fingers...that is just bad hygiene.
see I wish i had a sister to ask this of...but I guess you all are stand ins for that role!
thanks mommas in advance

Re: dumb quest- regarding time for self(long)
I would ditch the wraps and continue going - but once a week!
The natural will be easier to deal with and not demand an appt. as frequently. But you should still go - do something that makes you feel good! In my nail place, the mani is $7. Pedi is $12. I do both once a week. Not that they NEED it....but I do!!!!

Hi Phyl-
I don't get my nails wrapped and they are definitely more natural but if you like them wrapped, can afford the upkeep, they don't get in the way with doing baby stuff and it gets you some 'Me time', I say continue to wrap them. Why not? You deserve it HTH
I have been DYING to get a fresh pedicure for the longest time but things have been so busy. You have me jonesing for it again.
I think natural might be a bit easier...you can keep going...but its not a big issue if you break one...

If you are looking for approval- here you go You deserve your 1 1/2 hours of time to get your nails done. the wraps force you to go out and get some free time- so i say enjoy it. You work way too hard to not spend $25 on yourself.

GO OUT!!! Even if you decide not to have your nails done and go au natural go window shopping somewhere. Get your ME time. You will be a better mommy and a better wife because of it.

Honestly, Phyl....I don't think this question is about whether to keep your nail wraps or not. If you want the nail wraps, than keep them. If you don't, than have them soaked off...that part is simple. If all you really want to hear is that you DESERVE the time alone every two weeks - than there's no question that you MUST do this for yourself (wraps or no wraps).
Personally, I couldn't imagine having my nails wrapped b/c they would just get ruined so fast. BUT - if you like them, than you should have them. Even though I do not have wraps, I still treat myself to a mani/pedi every 3 weeks or so (sometimes longer) - but that is my 'Mommy' time, and I definitely feel that I am entitled to that time.

Re: dumb quest- regarding time for self(long)
If you can get momy time to go out and get your nails done then take it, some people do get this and some don't.
Mommy's need time to themselves for their sanity, even more so then men, but they seem to get more of that for some reason, I guess maybe b/c they didn't give birth, (not that it's an excuse)
Do whatever makes you happy, I still get my nails done and kayla is 21 months, I sometimes have to take her and it is such a PIA but I need that to make me happy, I love my nails!!
Good luck with any decision you make,

phyl what was the verdict? To wrap or not to wrap?

verdict???
I think I am leaning towards going natural. Still going every once in a while- but it will cost less and not need an appt...and can get it done in the city if need be since the pricing for a plain mani in the city is not THAT much more expensive than home...
oh whatever- I guess that I was feeling that my girly self is slowly withering away. I got a new cut 2 months ago that doesnt require me to blow it out..., I dont highlight my hair since I was preg, I get up at 530 so everything is done and j is nursed b4 I go to work, I stay up late to iron clothes so I am presentable at work (or wear things that dont need to be ironed)...it just seems I have lost a good size part of 'ME' when I became a mom.(too bad I didnt loose some lbs too!) ..and don't get me wrong I LOVE being a mommy...but when did I stop 'being a girl'? or being allowed to be a girl? sigh

Re: dumb quest- regarding time for self(long)
Phyl, I feel your pain. I've had one highlight since giving birth 8 months ago (and of course it was awful). I haven't had a hair cut since b-fore I conceived. I used to blow my hair out every day -- no more -- I've accepted the curls (yuck!) I cannot believe the way I dress these days, but crawling on the floor and green baby food do not mix with my old designer wardrobe (even if it did fit correctly). And I put on make up about once a week. In the past I wouldn't have gone to 7-11 the way I walk around now. I too love being a mommy, but so so miss the girly girl stuff that used to be ingrained in me.

Re: dumb quest- regarding time for self(long)
on this note...let's ALL promise ourselves one girly pleasure a month! This post is making me sad!!!! I already feel like I am losing my girliness - I am all pudgy and pimply and un-sexy! I even had my nails painted CLEAR! The horror!!!!!
That is it!!! I am going this weekend and getting something PINK on my fingers AND toes!

Re: dumb quest- regarding time for self(long)
You go Jenny!
I just read an article in AB mag about the mom doing all the work and the reasons, yada yada, but they pointed out the 'sense of entitlement' issue. My DH has no problem disappearing into the bathroom for 15 minutes or taking a 45 minute shower or sneaking off for nine holes. I feel like I'm doing something wrong if I run to the supermarket for 15 minutes, never mind something for myself. I pledge to do a girly girl thing!

I also pledge to do a girly girl thing! Everyone keeps telling me that you do need some 'you' time, so Phyl, don't feel bad and try to work some time in for yourself. I know the feeling though. I go to the supermarket and start freaking out like I should be home with him...it's hard!!

oh I hear ya!
I TOTALLY follow you in the supermarket vein. I feel like I SNEAK OUT when I went to the supermkt by myself 2x in the last 7 months!!
sorry to depress you all on this...but I guess we are all feeling this to some degree...(makes me feel a tiny bit better that this isnt all in my head)
I SOOO agree with the guys and 45 min showers TOO! when I can, I stay in a bit longer..but most of my showers are like 10 min tops when J is awake.
and still I feel like I am not doing enuf to interact/enrich her. ..... what the heck is wrong with all of us for thinking like this?? did our moms set up an impossible role model for us to follow??

Re: oh I hear ya!
Phyl, it is nice to know that others are going through the same thing, isn't it? I freak out thinking 'where did the day go? we didn't read a book, or do tummy time, or all the other things we are 'supposed' to be doing!!' Forget 'selfish' Mommy time!
And people tell me, don't worry things will get better when he is bigger - he's only 3 months old. But I feel like I can never get everything in, and be a good wife, and be a 'girl', etc. etc. etc.
This mommy thing is definitely not exactly what I thought it would be...I don't know what I thought it would be, but it's definitely harder!!

Re: dumb quest- regarding time for self(long)
This thread is making me feel so much better (I thought I was the only one). I feel guilty putting on an Elmo tape while I try to make dinner so I don't feel guilty that my husband no dinner when he comes home from 'work'. Because I've been eating bon bons all day! UGH!

phyl - make sure to use nailtiques for a while...and don't try to grow your real nails too long. unfortunately they won't be in the greatest shape....in about 6 months though they'll be nice and strong!
