dumb question about addressing invites

Are you supposed to write out the words New York after the town on the invite? or is abbreviating NY ok?

Traditionally, you're supposed to write out the state name, not abbreviate it.

from what I heard, only Mr. Ms. Mrs. Dr. etc. are abbreviated on an invite; nothing else
