Dumb question about baby clothes from a non-parent

Ok, I know this sounds dumb, but I was buying a baby gift today & I was wondering, when do babies whear outfits?

They had all the cute little dreses & pants sets & things, but , but other freidns have 3 month old & he is alwys in onesies. At what age would you put a baby in actual outfits?

They are so cute, but I want to make sure I buy them big enough, if she isn't going to be wearing them for awhile.

Thanks!

I guess it depends on the parent. I have some friends that dressed their kids in cute outfits every day and then put them in sleepers at night.

Sarah was our first child, and we didn't have any kids in our families, so we were COMPLETELY uncomfortable dressing her in things that went over her head. She would cry and we were afraid we were hurting her. She was in sleepers pretty much all the time until she was 3 months old. When she had better head control I felt better about dressing her in more complicated things.

I think it really does depend on Moms. I was very nervous in the beginning about putting outfits over her head but after about a month I was doing better and the weather was getting warmer so we started with her outfits and only used the onesies for sleeping. So I use outfits all the time, several a day I can't stand spit up at all!

My son had worn outfits from day 1 whenever we went out. Between my mother and MIL, I have enough clothes for my son until he wears size 18 months.

Not only does it depend on what the mom likes, but I also believe the season..

i.e.: My son was born in March... all of his 'little' clothes were outfits, when we hit July, I had shorts and shirts and sets for if we went out anywhere A. PUBLIC or B. WHERE I KNEW HE SHOULD HAVE SOMETHING More than a onesie!!

Primarily, I kept him in onsies during the summer, because frankly- it was too hot!

I LOVED playing dress up with Gabe. He wors jeans and a plaid button down shirt and sneakers often from early on LOL

It depends on the parents and the season.

Thanks!

My friend actually just sent me pictures & her daughter's coming home outfit was a little dress, so, I I think she will be on of those moms that puts outfits on her right away! that's good news- now I canm have fun shopping!

The weather thing is a good point--my other friend's baby is always in onesies, but he was just born in May & I usually just see him at their house.

Amber had more clothes than Emelda had shoes so I figured I wouldn't waste them and enjoyed playing dress up every day with her. I have to live vicariously since the newest article of clothes I have is a 6 pack of underwear

I would get her an outfit because even if she is like me and keeps her baby onesies all the time, she'll still want to have a few cute outfits for going out or pictures, etc.

Jake is summer baby and I just don't see a point in making a big fuss and overdressing him to go out for a walk or whatever, so he practically lives in onesies (and sleep n'plays at night) except when we go out or I want pictures of him in something other than a onesie. I love having a few cute outfits to dress him occassionally.

Also, if she IS like me, she probably has about 1000 onesies anyway!
