I'm really sorry but I feel clueless. Since I'm getting married AT the hall... when do we take formal photos?
During the cocktail hour?
If we wanted 'other' location photos, such as a park nearby or something, then do we do that on my wedding day or before?

Re: Dumb question.. Photography
We are also getting married at our hall and decided that we didn't want to miss our CH so we're taking pictures before the ceremony. Our photographers are setting up the 'first meeting' with the both of us so it will be special...

Yes, during the cocktail hour, unless you plan on seeing your FH before the ceremony. If so, you could find a place nearby that you could travel to for pictures. A lot of brides like Planting Fields or Bayard arboretums. Even still, you'll probably have to take some photos during the cocktail hour as well.
Good luck!
ETA: My FH and I are in the same situation but will not be seeing each other before the ceremony. We will take our family pictures before the ceremony, but he and I will probably miss our cocktail hour as a result. It was very important to my FH that he not see me before the ceremony, so we are OK with missing the CH.

I went to many wedding where they had the ceremony at the hall. The bride and Groom took the pictures right after the ceremony. They made it to 1/2 of the cocktail hour. If you found a neaby park or nice place to take pictures, you could quickly go in the limo or car to the place, take pictures and get back, withink the hour. Our pictures took not even an hour - BP, our pictures and family. Another idea... if at all possible maybe you could extend you cocktail hour an extra 15 minutes???? If you don't mind me asking, where are you getting married?

Even though it's not the 'traditional way' to do this...but FH and I will be taking our formals before the ceremony. Our photographer is also going to set up a special 'first meeting'...
It's going to be hard, but our ceremony at the Milleridge starts at 11:30 am, so we're going to have to be up and ready really early...and there won't be any time to take pics anywhere else but at the site.

Most brides getting married at the hall take photos with their hubby-to-be before the ceremony. This gives you lots and lots of time, no pressure so you look relaxed in your photos, and the ability to attend your cocktail hour...

Stewart Manor C.C. I'm playing with the offsite idea.. but I'm leaning with staying on site.
There's a gazeebo outside in front and the interior reminds me of a lodge.
I don't mind missing the Cocktail hour so much, but my FH grandmother speaks no english so I don't want to seem like we are ignoring them. They have only been to traditional Chinese weddings. This is there first 'Contemporary' (sp?) one.
So you're saying a half hour is enough?
If so, I'll stop stressing!!!
Oh ...wait... I have to get a guy first! Argh!

If you tell you wedding party to be on point with the pictures - it won't take long at all. When we got to the hall we took all the BP shots 1st. We told the BP to be on point so we can finish quickly. Then we took our pictures. The parents arrived 1/2 hour early to take family pictures.
Also, use the reception hall since the grounds are so nice.

you can get your photos done in whatever time you allow for them - but remember you the less time you have the fewer you will get. One of my BM got married at her hall and took her photos during the cocktail hour and she figured it would be enough - she tells me looking back they really regreat not taking photos first because in the hour they didn't get close to 1/2 the photos they truely wanted. She says if she had to do it over she would do photos first

We did ours in between the church and the reception. We made it to the end of our cocktail hour. You can really do them whenever...even before the wedding as long as your not superstitious!
