Dumb Question regarding wine bottles for favors...

Ok, so I WAS going to do Godiva chocolates as my favor, and I was set on them, but now I want to do full wine bottles, one per couple. I just think it's a nice gesture. BUT what kind of wine do I get? Red? White? And how much is it going to cost for a halfway decent bottle of wine? I live out near the wineries, so I should know this, but any help would, well, help Thanks!

I would stick with a white zinfandel. Every wedding I have ever been to that gave out wine, including my own, it was a white zinfandel. Look online at some of the wineries out east. I think Pindar and Duck Walk vineyard have info online. Do a google search for wine favors. There are places out in California that will ship it here. I don't remember how much they were. Sorry. Hope I helped a little bit!!

Check out Macari vineyard. Its my family's winery. Often I notice that brides are just giving out the cheapest wine without paying attention to taste. Macari Wines

I'd stick w/ a decent red OR white. - a classic merlot or something like that - if your family are wine drinkers - i'd personally skip the white zinfandel

I would try to mix it up a little, that way people can kind of pick or trade for which kind of wine they like. We are doing a Merlot, a Cabernet and a Chardonnay.

We're doing the same thing and I agree that if you're family are wine drinkers, skip the white zin. i think we're going to mix it up with a few different kinds. I've been all over the internet trying to find decent affordable bottles, since w/ over 200 guests it can get very expensive. My latest idea is to go to my local liquor stores and see if we can get a discount if we buy in bulk. We're also planning to go out east to the wineries in a couple of weeks so we'll look into it there as well. I'll let you know if we find any great deals. Good luck!

We're doing half bottles of Wolffer Chardonnay and Merlot. (Wine drinkers definitely don't consider white zin a wine not to be a 'wine snob' or anything!!) Price comes out to be about 5 bucks per guest. Not bad for us because we're only expecting about 90 guests in total.

I used Duckwalk Vineyards. I like their White Chardonnay the best so that is what I got. (It was actually the first bottle of wine DH and I had together and at that time we only bought it because we liked the little ducks on the label. Now we know a little more about wine and still like the Chardonnay by them.) If I remember correctly it was about $7/full bottle. How many you order does play into the price and by the type of wine. I think at Duckwalk the red was a little more money.

Duckwalk was great to work with. They wrapped all the bottles in cellophane for me - no extra chagre and they also put the wine labels I ordered on the neck of the bottles for me. The also gave us a wedding gift of a big bottle of champagne!

I would stick with white or red - I wouldn't do white zin - like someone said most people who are like wine don't do white zin.

I agree, unless your guests are young. By mid-20s most people have outgrown the white zin thing --- except my best friend who knows to bring her own bottle wherever she goes!!

A merlot and a chardonnay make a nice selection.

merlot and chardonnay are nice but i still like white zin.. i personally would go with a mixture so people ahve the option to trade them if they want

IMO: I'd go with a mixture of different kinds so everyone isn't the same.
