I know when we mail out the invitations, unmarried people can get addressed: Mr. John Doe and Guest
What about the Save the Date? Mr. John Doe and Guest ~or~ Mr. John Doe?
TIA

Re: Dumb STD question
and guest! I sent my STDs out months ago and I still haven't heard the end of it from my FMIL that I didn't do 'and guest'. It wasn't 'proper' and I offended people apparently. Funny, everyone I talked to didn't care...

I didn't send 'and guest'. I just felt the STD was casual.

Re: Dumb STD question
I didn't mark it with 'and guest', because I thought it was informal. It's just a heads up, the actual invitation should say 'and guest'.

Re: Dumb STD question
do NOT add the and guest. You never know if you're going to have to cut back on your guest list later on. This way you still have the option of not inviting people with guests.

Actually, your FMIL is incorrect - what you did was proper. You don't put 'and guest' on STD envelopes. STD envelopes bear the name of the person receiving it only. (Just like the outer envelope of an invitation)

The *inner* envelope would say 'and Guest.'
Unless you don't have an inner envelope, 'and guest' never goes on the outer envelope.

Re: Dumb STD question
I don't think we will have an inner envelope...but let me get this straight! If there IS an inner envelope, outer envelope just has Mr. John Doe and innder envelope has Mr. John Doe and Guest
If there is no inner envelope, outer envelope has Mr. John Doe and guest
All these little details could drive you nuts Thanks for the info~

Re: Dumb STD question
For a STD, there is no inner envelope (unless you are doing something ultra fancy, but I've never heard of it).
You do NOT put 'and Guest' on STD's. They are meant for YOUR guests to know about your wedding date - when they get their actual invitation, they will see that they are invited with a guest because on the outside envelope it will say Mr. (or Ms.) Smith and on the INSIDE envelope it will say Mr. (or Ms.) Smith and Guest.
If you opt not to use inner envelopes for your wedding invitations, then you would write Mr. (or Ms.) Smith and Guest on the outside one.
But going back to the original question - no 'and Guest' for the STD.

Re: Dumb STD question
For STD I wouldn't put and guest. The person whom you addressed it to is the one that needs to know the date because that is the person you really want there. Once the invitation comes and says and guest then they can ask the person they want to take as a guest to go at that time.
If it is a couple that is not married but have been together or dating for a while you can either send one to each or write Mr. John Doe and Ms. Judy Smith on the STD and invitation.

I agree with the above. No 'and guest' for STD's

Re: Dumb STD question
You can do STDs however you want...they aren't meant to be as formal as an invitation.

Re: Dumb STD question
Reply the same way you address the invites is the same way you address the STD. But what i did was I didn;t invite (and) guests till the invites. The STD are to make sure the people are aware of the event. I sent mine out months before the wedding esepcailly to the out of towners
